Dr Megan Smith from Every Doctor spoke about the online campaign that exposes MPs links with private healthcare - and how important it is that boundaries are made on donations.

So we are expected to swallow the story that MP's who receive large lumps of cash from Health Companies, Pharmaceutical companies, etc., etc., are never influenced in any way in respect of the NHS? Well, I for one, am of the belief that there's no smoke without fire. Indeed, where Wes (The Weasel) Streeting is concerned, his attitude, and public pronouncements towards public health care is, and has for some time, been that he advocates greater involvement of private medical firms being given government contracts. But then the present Labour Party is little more than the Tory Party MKII.

It all comes down to conflict of interests. We don't have to prove anything about the motivations of our MPs. There should simply be an outright ban on all political lobbying fullstop. No excuses. No exemptions. No exceptions. End it now!

We actually live in occupied lands. The Corporate oligarchs won the war that most did not even know was being fought. We never had democracy and now never will because no one will or wants to wake up.

How do we strive for democracy? I have become avowedly cynical with regard to our position. Aligned against democracy is the lack of transparency of politicians, the control of both media and politicians by those who are powerful enough to own the media, and, by extension own the politicians. The only way forward that I can see is by unionising and civil disobedience on a grand scale. Politicians cannot offer us anything whilst they are enmired in their own subterfuges. This morning I listened to a politician bemoaning the lack of transparency in the government. In seconds the acerbic, tory sympathising interviewer had used “whataboutery” to effectively emasculate her! There is little hope and little faith in the integrity of politicians of any hue

@@peterhixon371 There will never be a true democracy, there never has been one but you can get close. #1 A free independent media that holds the feet of power to the fire. We do not have this. #2 An independent judiciary and an independent police. #3 One person one vote. Our politicians live in the pockets of the corporations. The sell influence via the corrupt lobby system negating the votes of anyone that has not been purposely convinced our vote is worthless. #4 It is the duty of our representatives in parliament to keep us informed instead they hide the truth behind an ever increasing veil of secrecy while peddling untruths and outright lies. IMO there is no path back towards democracy via democratic actions as those pathways have been closed, ask Assange if you doubt that. Viva La revolution and the sooner the better.

Tuc coalition party is who I'll vote for as they take workers rights and strikes seriously and don't bow down to goverment or the media they are fighting for proper wages in line with inflation job security better working conditions proper secure pensions ect it's the TUC who are being demonized Inc Mick lynch and others for speaking truth and fighting for this country as a whole front line workers in all sectors are the mechanics of this country the heart that keeps pumping and needs to be working efficiently to keep things running smoothly the fat cats are the ones proffateering off every workers misery so TUC is the party is the REAL LABOUR PARTY

When Health Secretary, Hunt took £29280 from Andrew Law, a healthcare investor and hedge fund speculator. He was one of hundreds of MP's being paid to lobby in both Houses to bring the NHS to its knees.

Its Grift. Labour in particular shouldn't be taking any donations - on top of MP salaries and personal expenses they're paid over six million a year in short-money to be the opposition.

Short money is capitalized as it's named after a person - Edward Short (later Lord Glenamara), the then-Leader of the House of Commons

Every Doctor is doing some really great work here. I just feel sad that the private healthcare industry here has already compromised the decision makers both the sitting govt and HM Opposition. They of course would claim otherwise, but only a fool or a complete ideologue would deny the clear direction of travel for our NHS. It breaks my heart.

Brilliant interview, helps restore my faith in humanity. We need more Dr. Smiths. I belong to a professional organisation and if I did a fraction of what some MPs are doing I would rightly be removed from the register. No one should take gifts and money from people who may gain by the decisions you make. It is that simple.

Surely it is more about appearance.. and transparency... how can we ever see what is truly going on. But more importantly it is of the need to be clear about a National Health Service, free at the point of delivery and how the private companies leech money from the NHS budget.

14:55 if it _was_ a financial decision there would be *no* privatization within the NHS because private suppliers are a _lot_ more expensive & often do a bad or incomplete job that then needs to be repaired by the NHS at even _more_ expense.

Paying MPs used to be a social crime in uk. The Cons. lost the governance in the 1990s due to CASH FOR VOTES GOLD FOR PEARAGE MONEY FOR VOTES IN THE COMMONS: THE SLIPPERY ROAD.

Dumming down the services is the back door to privatisations. You make it bad for users, they look elsewhere. LONG WAITING LISTS, DISGRUNTED UNHAPPY NHS STAFF, INADVISABLE GPs SERVICES PROVIDED BY LESS CAPABLE STAFF, STUNTS TO GO TO THE PHARMACY, BUT THEY ASK YOU TO PAY,....

OK, no need to go deep into the nitty-gritty of whether or not these particular MPs could ever be corrrupted by money because I have no doubt whatsoever that all have a saintly indifference to filthy lucre and like the rest I also have absolutely no wish to risk being sued on the basis of the UK's overbearing libel laws. But hey, let's cut through the crap a bit. Whatever happened to basic concerns about "a conflict of interests"? On that basis alone we should ban political lobbying altogether. It's not a lot to ask of our democratic representatives.
