An endurance lesson that includes a Long Tone accompaniment, in hopes that it makes it more "fun" to do long tones. (Yeah... I know... fat chance)

Absolutely golden Mr. B. Just finished playing through the whole thing. THESE kind of videos are very valuable to me. I love your other stuff too, but I’m working hard to get better. I’m 67 and have been playing with our new horizons band now for a year and a half after quitting in 1972. It was great to get near the end of the long tone exercise today playing long sustained B and C above the staff. I’ve made progress, but I’ve got a long ways to go. More of these please!, more of these please. Also, I have one of my less expensive mouthpieces into the shop to get bent like yours wonder what it will do?

I can’t wait to give this a try! I have been playing for just one year now after a 23 year(!!) hiatus. This will be very helpful to me because it’s been a lot of work getting my chops back. The greatest difference between playing now vs back in the 90s is having so many great Internet resources, such as generous folks like yourself putting these wonderful videos up on KZfaq. I am so grateful. Take care!

What a work out! Although I play clarinet I still found this very helpful. Manged to get to the end (now in recovery on a tea infusion!). Managed 10 - 12 seconds on each note and then a rest for 10 seconds and in for the last 10 seconds. Really appreciate your motivating backing tracks, (as a child learning clarinet, my tutor was the serious type who set excercises and studies which were really boring). Just one request, could you add Another Bites the Dust to your list - really wanted this to carry on! Thanks Mr B😊👍

Hey Bill - really love this long tones exercise...I have been doing the Caruso Six exercise for a number of years and finally got to the point where I could repeat 3 times but tired of it. I did 15 seconds play/15 rest on each and it was very helpful although I could not keep the high B all the way and then could not get the high C out. Thanks for doing this.

Excellent! I couldn't quite hold the last couple of hight notes long enough but was pleased at my progress. I have gotten back into playing similarly to Dennis although I'm now a couple of years older than him. Your videos have been a big inspiration and practice vehicle to aid in my playing. You still have the "heart of a teacher" and it really comes through! Your time, effort, and creativity are very much appreciated! Also, your playing is outstanding! Now consider a video on how you have developed your amazing range! I can sometimes approach the F above the staff, but not with any power. My consistent top note would probably be the D. Could you share any exercises that you like that help or do you think that it is that some are just born with the right kind of chops to get that extended range?

Today I decided to try holding each note for 20 seconds. I managed to get up to high G above staff but then had to just stop and take a break before moving on. Had a little bit of trouble holding the high Bb. High B was good. High C was difficult and would go between Bb, C & high D. Cooked! I did follow with the cool down though. 👍🏼

Thank YOU! Do you have a recommendation on length of period to rest. For example-isometric exercises are recommended to alternate every other day,…..I don’t like to do that for trumpet though. But I do think that sometimes I do need to completely take a day off and when do, feel much better. Question; I have adult onset epilepsy, and a year ago February suffered a bad series of gran mals repeatedly. I have still not gotten my chops back in to the condition they were prior to this. I don’t quite know why, I just can’t seem to bring back the endurance. I admit am bad about moving in to the high range where like to play and that probably doesn’t help. Maybe with these exercises I’ll do better at staying in the C4 scale range. I have even tried moving my embouchure slightly (mouthpiece higher ever so slightly), because my lower lip has suffered two events of a deep laceration from almost biting thru it. Seems to help for a bit, but sure feels strange. Also adding a big WOW, thank you for the “take a break” reminder mssg. Good idea!!! I am 64, played college jazz band, etc. and now play with Church, city band, grandkids, etc. Use and share your stuff everywhere, You are an inspiration Bill Williams! From SW of Kansas City, going to go play my horn!, and share this on. Have a great day,

These are really great techniques, thanks for making this video. My practice time is so limited that I usually jump right into some fun songs, but I will absolutely spend some time with this. I emailed you last week with a video link. Did you get it?

Hey Mr. B, I love your videos and channel as a whole! I wanted to ask if you could please make a cover for the song Message in a Bottle by The Police, because it's my favorite song and it be cool to show the song to my band mates. (I write your sheet music into my manuscript notebook.) Although I don't sound as great as you, I still enjoy playing your songs to my family. Thank you, God bless!

You are the best! Exactly what I've been needing after a bit of a break I didn't expect! Sidenote. What does it mean I'm doing wrong if I can hold the higher notes for 20 seconds and the lower notes for about 10 seconds?
@MrBsCOVERS
@MrBsCOVERS Ай бұрын
Ironically, lower notes tend to need a bit more "volume" of air than higher notes. I tend to take shallower breaths when playing high - but when I'm holding a lower note I need a "full tank of gas". 🎺

1 month of every day or every other day. When I started I couldn't hit the A above the staff. Today I got the B; progress.

Yes! Keep up the good work. And remember, adding notes to your range is always a “slow motion” process. Unfortunately, there’s no way to speed it up. Put in the time, reap the rewards. Best wishes! 🎺
