The original Mr Blobby has to be one of the most under appreciated & unsung physical comedic performers from the UK that there’s ever been. Just brilliant.

I have vague memories of this show, I was so young when it aired. Mr. Blobby used to make me laugh so hard I'd cry. Still makes me laugh, it's such an unpredictable character! I always got a sense that he was dangerous though and could easily hurt you lol.

He made me laugh as a child in the 90s, although I was a bit older when he first appeared. I guess about 7? I always remember the hilarious grumpiness that went on when Mr Bobby was Christmas no.1! They failed to see the funny side. That's what Christmas is supposed to be - silly, daft, fun & funny, magical & above all else, the innocence of it all through a child's eyes. I think the next time a childrens/light entertainment character got to Christmas No1 was Bob the Builder in the mid 00s. I don't think it's happened since. Apart from that mash up Peter Kay put together for Children In Need but that wasn't at Christmas.

@@tomboychick I was a little older when I first saw him on this show too, about 9 or 10? My younger sister was absolutely terrified of him, but I thought he was hilarious. I can definitely see where people would have found this nightmare fuel though.
@tomboychick2 жыл бұрын
@@neniaemm6127 It's swings & roundabouts really. Some of the things on TV we were scared of or upset by as kids, now seem completely trivial or bizarre in hindsight. My older sister was devastated by Scott & Charlene's wedding on Neighbours, because she thought the characters would leave immediately. She even went & sat in the kitchen & cried! She must have been about 5 at the time. Yet the really odd thing about that was that she didn't even watch neighbours! It just happened to be on in the background!

My dad pulled a dirty trick just like that on me I was little. Picture this. You’re a three-year-old kid living in the middle of nowhere. Your mom’s brother is bringing his family to town for a visit, and it happens to be around his wife’s birthday, so your mom is baking a big chocolate cake to serve after dinner that night. So, while you wait excitedly all day to play with your cousin and have a slice, the whole house is filled with a wonderful smell. Cake is a pretty big deal because (again) you live in the middle of nowhere. There will be a nice modern grocery store coming to town in about five years that will have a bakery, but until then, the only way to get a cake without driving at least an hour out of town is to bake it yourself. There’s no picking up a dessert on the way to a dinner party or on a last-minute whim, and your mother has rambunctious little you to look after as well as your brand-new baby brother, so things like cakes and pies usually only happen on pretty special occasions. After dinner, the big moment arrives. You’ve been on your best behavior. Your uncle has the camcorder trained on you (this is how I know about all of this, by the way, I’ve got the tape) as your mother sets the cake down right in front of you. Your eyes are huge, but you control yourself. You don’t even try to sneak a fingerful of frosting, you just sit there in awe. Then, just as your mother starts putting the candles in the cake, your father says five horrible words. “Okay Thomas, time for bed!” You immediately burst into a fit, but you comply. You don’t hit anything on the way out like Blobby. You don’t even argue. You just run off to your room, probably burying your head in your pillow to cry. The adults are all laughing, and your father has to go after you and calm you down. He carries you back into the kitchen and says, “Geez… he thought I was serious!”

Anyone notice that the suitcase turned into moneybags at around 1:31?
@BluetheFortune20063 жыл бұрын
I bet someone was playing Cash for Questions for that point, since the show Noel's House Party was live, they didn't even add the moneybags or removing the suitcases since they were still in the darkest rooms underneath "The Great House" which some of the area was used to be "Wait till i get you home" (later in the 5th series as Wait till we all get home.)

Ah yes, Mr. Blobby and Noel Edmonds. One became a distressing, hysterical relic of the 90s whose sole present-day purpose is to horrify children and adults alike. And the other one is Mr. Blobby.

I always found Mr Blobby very disturbing. I used to get the vibe that he used to capture and eat kids or something. The mad, staring, hungry eyes. The manic grin. The teeth. The psychotic antics. Horrible. The Megabus mascot reminded me of Mr Blobby too. Didnt like him either. My kids spontaneously called the Megabus guy "child eater" too 🙃
