That ninja stance he does after his scream at 2:00 is the only thing he could've possibly done after achieving something that amazing.
@terriblecrayon4 жыл бұрын
That was called a C#6, the highest note a human can produce, or so I was told.
@GodSmacK51813 жыл бұрын
@@terriblecrayon Patton can hit even higher notes than that, he goes all the way up to E7/F7
@BrunodeSouzaLino2 жыл бұрын
@@terriblecrayon That's a formant scream. That pitch is not possible to be sang normally. It's a harmonic of a lower note. Somehow, Patton has figured a way to make the harmonic louder than the fundamental. There's one particular Jon Zorn song where Patton does this scream by himself and you can hear a lower note below the scream.
@m0nstaman Жыл бұрын
@@BrunodeSouzaLino David Lee Roth used to do it all the time. I've noticed the people that can do it best either have naturally raspy voices (Axl Rose, Mariah Carey, Lalah Hathaway, DLR, Bon Jovi, to name a few that can do it), have REALLY good control of their distortion (Mike Patton, Devin Townsend), or a little bit of both (Layne Staley, Corey Taylor). I've practiced it a lot in my own singing and I've noticed that once you get to around an A5 (more like a G# or so a lot of the time) when using that technique, the A6 begins to overpower the fundamental note. Probably something to do with the fact that pitches double in decibel per octave.
@BrunodeSouzaLino Жыл бұрын
@@m0nstaman This is quite different than a scream in that sense. While the scream in this performance lands in the region of a C#7, it's an effect in the context of the song and not meant as a pitched tone. This is different than similar screams Devin Townsend used to do in that vocal range. He's not singing that high pitch. That pitch is a harmonic of a lower pitch and that's what's being sung. Jon Zorn's Moonchild showcases this well. You can clearly hear two pitches when he screams.

damn. i've been listening to bungle for ages...but seeing this song performed live is insane. That bass/drums/vocal unison in the middle has got to be one of the strangest and most difficult passages in rock music. I didn't even know it was possible to pull that off live, I thought for sure some studio magic was involved on Disco Volante. Guess not!! Someone PLEASE make this band get back together. ***** He isn't. From wikipedia: The untitled track after "Sleep (Part II): Carry Stress in the Jaw" is often titled "The Secret Song" (the working title of the song) or "Spy" (the title that appears on various concert setlists). It was originally recorded without bassist Trevor Dunn's input or knowledge; although, shortly before its release, Dunn managed to find it and added a vocal track. Though never explicitly stated, it is believed (by Dunn) that the drums were played by McKinnon, and the bass guitar by Patton.

2:23 - 3:07 This has got to be my favourite bit on that entire album. And live! LIVE! Oh lordie! For those who don't know, the lyrics for this section are from a poem by Edgar Allen Poe; "In the multiplied objects of the external world I had no thoughts but for the teeth... And of Bernice, I more seriously believed that All her teeth were thoughts.. The white and ghastly spectrum of the teeth... Meditations were never pleasurable... The phantasma of the teeth maintained Its terrible ascendency"

Erm... am I the exception to this rule? I like the work of Spruance and Dunn in particular. Although all the members of Bungle add to the sound, the combination of Patton Spruance and Dunn really has something. Patton has still not equalled Bungle to this day - His other bands just weren't as cohesive. Additionally - No Spruance = No Bungle. Trey was the motivating force behind the band.
