This will be a 2 part video showing the installation of 4 three ton Mr Cool mini split air conditioners for the new shop space. Part one will be getting all of the mounts on the wall for the air handlers, penetrating the building wall for the coolant lines, and hanging the fort two air handlers. Part 2 will focus on the side wall air handlers and installing the condensers.
Check out these links for more info on Mr Cool Mini Splits.

@@brittmrmanly4982 We’re not too far off being in Central Texas. Gets pretty hot here as well, but not as humid as Florida or the Gulf Coast. Our garage turned into a sauna every summer and an ice box every winter, so I added insulation to the garage doors and rolled out some batts in the ceiling space above. That alone has made a big difference, but a mini-split would be such an awesome addition. Good luck with yours. 👍

The hole through the building should always be lower than the hole through the plywood. That way the drain is pitched down as soon as it comes out of the unit. Mini split drains clog EXTREMELY quickly. Especially in a dusty shop invironment. You don't want that water sitting in one place at all.

Building a shop for yourself is every man’s dream and Adam is a genius for figuring out how to do it and actually making a profit on the work. Well done Abom79 I’m happy for you. I build power line and whenever we drill holes in wooden poles before we set them we always have someone eyeball the level of the drill bit the way y’all did with the long drill bit through the wall.

I bought and installed a 12K BTU MrCool mini split in my shop, specifically because of the video you did installing it in your other shop, and I made sure to let them know that’s why I did it. So nice going out to a heated/cooled shop, and pretty easy on the wallet compared to a portable or window unit. I did weld up a bracket to mount the outdoor unit about 7’ up the back wall of my shop so I can still use the area underneath it and not worry about running into it with my tractor.

I was going to put 3 of these in my house, but I couldn't justify the cost. Instead I put in through wall a/c units with a sleeve. I had to cut holes with a jackhammer into the brick walls that took 2 days each. Plus I had to make a scaffold for the second floor but that was easy. After over 10 years I have no problems. I used high efficiency/low noise units that were double the price of an ordinary ones but still saved over 1/2 the cost of mini splits.

Though you may have already thought of it, I want to bring up something. I saw trailers parked next to where your condenser units are going to be. Some kind of bumper guards set in the ground to keep anyone from backing into your units will be time well spent! If someone were to back into one, the chances that they will contact you may be low and you may have to replace it out of your pocket. Just a thought.

Great attention to proper methods...measure, measure then cut. Plan of attack needs completed prior to most installations for the least clusters...well done. Another advantage of having 4 units is you have choices as to how much cooling/heat and where its needed depending on the humidity and/or heat/cold of the day. A little more investment up front will yield the least cost of operation in the long run. Your machines will love it, they will be more consistent in accuracy not having large temp swings !!

I have been an HVAC tech for a long time, I know the kit says you don't need a vacuum pump and yes it will work but you will LOSE some efficiency there will be some air trapped in the line set, I sure that the line set is shipped with nitrogen in it but that will be lost when you connect it. I would at least pull a vacuum on the lines prior to opening the valves at the condenser, sorry that's a bit tech but I hope it helps someone. Love the content

If you dont trust your soldering skills to lengthen the copper refrigerant lines, or you just dont feel like dicking with it, THEY SELL extended line kits in various size lengths if you want to go that route........ Just an FYI ALSO: even tho they are pre-charged in the condenser part outside, once I have the lines hooked up, I always vacuum all of the outside air and moisture out of the lines and evaporator unit, to avoid ANY contamination, and ensure a long life from your Mini-Split. With the back of your shop being a Boat trailer parking lot, and guys walking by spraying with weed killer or String trimmers, etc, I wouldnt mount those 4 on the ground, they sell a wall bracket kit that would keep them up off the ground and out of harms way-

I’ve been watching every video on this new shop build and details have been scarce. All I know is Adam intends to keep his home shop. That’s about it. @bdkj3e
@bdkj3e 2 жыл бұрын
Awhile back he bought a piece of land just out in the country a little bit and from a few tiny hints he's said here and there I believe he's going to build a house out there and a much bigger shop than what he has now, probably even bigger than this new shop space. I'm not sure how long y'all have been watching but I've been watching him for about 7 years now and when he did the video of pouring the new concrete slab in front of his shop at his house he poured it really thick because I know he was planning on adding to his shop again but I think he realized that he would end up expanding past it sooner than he would like so he's taking his time and playing the long game. He's going to build his dream shop and he's using this one as a dry run, he's going to build something epic like a 40'x70' or maybe even a 50'x100' building exactly how he wants it and move everything under one roof, I'm willing to bet he's also eventually going to buy back all the machines that his family had to sell to Motion when the economy took a crap. This is going to take awhile though, it's going to take years to build up the money and building homes is a painful process but it's almost like I can look inside his head and know his goals because they are so very close to my own, this is exactly how I would be doing it myself except all my stuff would be geared towards building guns instead of machining parts but it's all the same type of machining, probably more CNC stuff for me. Personally I think the only thing he's missing is having kids to keep the family legacy alive.

Adam, if you want to be able to control the units via android phone / IOS, a company called Sensibo offers an excellent solution (other brands do exist). You can even switch the units on and off from anywhere in the world. Each unit is around US$100 but to be honest I don't know if you can control multiple head units with each Sensibo controller. You basically replace the OEM remote with your phone and control all functions that the remote offers.

Hard to be sure in the video. Looks like your condensation line is higher where it goes through the wall of the building than where it comes out of the unit. Those MUST be lower than where they come out of the unit all the way out. Unit will leak if drain line is higher than outlet......condensation builds up inside and runs over and out of drain pan before it can get out of the tube.

The pan in a Mr. Cool unit is about 1/3 of the way up the height of the unit. The condensate hose comes out much lower than the pan. Code requires a p-trap in condensate lines, so it is definitely not a problem to have the line curve around a little and keep a trap seal in it inadvertently.

Don't forget to check the filters regularly! In a shop environment like this they will build up quickly. I'm talking like every month. Mini splits are very susceptible to building mold on the fans if filters are dirty. They are designed to be efficient, so they spend a majority of their time running low speeds. Low airflow to begin with plugged filters will make the head a mess. Easy maintenance, and they will run forever, at least the mitsubishis I install, not sure about Mr cool longevity.

We have problems with scrappers in Detroit Michigan that steal those condensers and scrap them for cash

Looking good, that’s a lot of work. But it will be worth it or you’re cool all summer long.

Hey Adam. Sorry to ask, but almost all these Mr Cool videos are sponsored by Mr Cool (free or discounted units), but not disclosed as such until one asks. Did you pay retail for these or is this also a sponsored video by the Mr Cool folks? If you were going to have a pro hvac person helping you anyway, seems it would have made more sense to get a multi-head system with a big and more efficient condenser outside, but I don't know what other decision criteria you had. The flat on the flange is to allow you to angle it on the outside. The Mr Cool folks suggest drilling that entire hole at a down angle from inside to outside to allow for drainage and for less bend in the lines, but that's mostly if you have a solid 2x4 or 2x6 wall behind the handler. Also, that lift is super useful. I man-handled the one in my shed and I swear my back is still out from holding that thing up while trying to position the lines cleanly (due to framing, mine had to exit from the opposite side, which makes it WAY more of a pain, so I'll never do that again). I've installed two of these (one in my shed, and later, one in my office). They're pretty nice as long as you have a reasonable place to store all the slack line set without it getting all gunky. My line set for both of mine came in a canvas-type sleeve you bundled everything in.

there should be some sort of teflon tape to wrap around electrical cable, copper lines and condensation drain line together from split unit to outside, look abd keep tidy also protects against elements, those insulation foams and cables needs protection

You put the hole going outside level with the hole inside it's supposed to be on a downward angle for the line set so that the condensate will drain. I normally would drill the outside hole 3" lower than the inside on that width of wall behind.
