He didn't survive off scraps for a month other soldiers found out he was there but they didn't snitch on him and they gave him food. They obviously weren't going to turn around and drop him off.

He found a relative amount the crew I believe. They kept him hidden until his finale day before he would have been declared AWOL. He then went to the CO and turned himself in. (according to some the CO remarked “If I had a platoon of men that wanted to fight as bad as you, then this war would be over by Christmas.) once the ship arrived to the assault (I forget the island name) he was issued a casualty’s rifle and gear.

I'd bet the parachute did deploy just not fully. As for them saying he survive falling without having deployed the parachute and doing some type of roll is just an over exaggeration one of many that exist.

When it got to the part where he'd retired, I was ecstatic. I wanted to get in my car, drive to wherever he was and meet this man....and then it said he died 12 years ago. I had just turned 18 then. My levels of disappointment are immeasurable.

My grandpa Jack actually did save someone's life in the military, it's a long story but basically he jumped to the ground and also pushed someone else down to push them out of the line of fire of some other guy using the tank wrong in basic training

Jack was my Uncle he was Married to my Aunt Kathy before he Married his widow. Jack bought me my first big wheel and said I couldn't ride it until I ate my food from Ward's. I didn't eat it all and still rode my big wheel he caught me and said I told you no but seeing how much fun I was having he laughed and pushed me along the driveway of his home. He was a fun guy and he passed away while I was in College if you go to the WW2 museum in New Orleans his fingerprints are all over it because he was such a driving force behind it. I miss him 😢
