Wow, Barry has this really great presence, where you can tell he’s full of great information while sharing it in a really approachable way. He also really seems like he cares about who he’s talking to. Which is rare for a record collector. We love Barry!

Barry is a natural communicator. His voice is soothing which makes him really pleasant and easy to listen to and his knowledge is quite simply bedazzling. Rare prog is like another realm to me. In a world polluted with the corporate tat of narcissistic warbling divas, gut churning boy bands and imbecilic rappers, prog is like a step into another dimension and Barry's depth of knowledge is opening doors I never knew existed. hopefully you'll invite him back. Thank you. Good luck everyone!

Thanks Barry and Jake. Great video. After Barry mentioned Black hill enterprise who organised the Hyde park music festivals in the sixties and seventies I popped to my neighbour's house ' Andrew King ' and showed him your video.. he was very impressed with Barry's musical knowledge and how Sharp Barry's memory is.. he also said. ' He has obviously never smoked pot with a memory as good as that '. 😂😂😂 ... That's Andrew's sense of humour... Thanks for sharing your memories.. Looking forward to part 2..✌️🙏

What an interesting bloke. Barry is the very definition of the fabled "Great British Eccentric" and I'm very glad there are chaps like this around. Love hearing his encyclopedic knowledge and anecdotes, and I hope some day he decides to capture some of this in a memoir or something. Long may he continue.

What a nice bloke with an incredible knowledge of music .Albums he should feature next time are Cressida's first two albums , May Blitz whose self titled debut is one of my all time favourite Vertigo swirl label album , Beggars Opera first two albums ( two more of my favourite swirlies ) , Ben's self titled debut which l believe is up there with Dr . Z's album as the rarest on the label and all the L.P.'s on Vertigo by Nucleus my all time favourite Jazz/ Rock band . l'd love to talk with Barry as we are much the same age and were around in the early 70's when Prog was at it's peak . Good video Jake which l enjoyed immensely and get back to Barry as quickly as possible .

What a fantastic Guy Barry is. His knowledge is phenomenal. I pride myself in knowing a lot about music but he is just another level with some amazing stories, esp love the Graham Bond ones. I love the Vertigo albums and have a few. Could have more and saw them cheap back in the 70's 80's and of course now they are expensive collector items. I did however buy Black Sabbath second hand for 50p in 1972. My best bargain purchase for sure.

Danny Baker worked in an independent retailer One Stop Records who were taken over by Harlequins records. His opinion of them was not favourable as they were more interested in mainstream popular music. But Barry seems to have a fondness for them which is good to hear. Thanks Jake! That was a great video. Barry has a wealth of knowledge - so fascinating to listen to and I loved his Vertigo Swirl LP picks. I am also with him on that Aphrodite's Child - 666 LP. It's an incredible album and my favourite swirl album as well. It takes the listener on an amazing journey. The original UK swirl release is very rare and sought after and hence goes for a lot of money. Try to get hold of an OG French copy - you won't regret it.

I have almost every one of the albums you shared except many of mine are US pressings since I'm across the pond from you (even the Jimmy Campbell). I would love to have a conversation with you and David Wells (Tenth Planet/Grapefruit) one day. We are aging out. Who in the future is going to understand what happened musically in the sixties and seventies? You did kinda have to be there.... Best, John

And amazing interview Jake and Barry ! There is so much to learn about this label. With my humor, there should have been a price total top right corner with a cash register sound every time the next album was shown! (Have you say, please Barry, remove those albums from those PVC sleeves. If you don't know why, look it up. I hope the vinyls are all ok - 😞. I am shuddering thinking about it).
@rabarebra
@rabarebra 3 ай бұрын
Yeah, the one on that first Black Sabbath album, the curled PVC surface shows that it is oxidising. I've had many of my early childhood LPs ruined this way. LPs looking foggy. That shit goes through paper jackets and paper inner sleeves. With Vertigo, you are usually lucky to have polylined inner sleeves which I found out stops it to get through, but paper inners, though, no luck.
