My favorite speckled trout fishing video to date! Caught a lot of big speckled trout. If you're from Florida, South Carolina, Texas, or Louisiana this guidance on how to catch big speckled trout will work for you! I show how to fish the custom mirrolure mr27 in the color pattern called "the truth" special ordered from "Speckled Truth" during spring transition. Finding fish in 75-80* water this time of year was extremely surprising. I honestly don't think I would have caught many fish at all if I wasn't throwing a 27 and I don't think I would have caught the big gator trout if I wasn't throwing the truth.

I've been trying hard to focus more on making good videos and editing takes way longer. Add the new baby to that equation and you'll probably see a lot less than I used to make but I'm still working at it! Really loved filming this one.

Thanks man. About to go check out your latest sheep video. I tried for sheeps today and it sucked. Got one 19" fish pretty quick and that turned out being the only bite.

A nice rod with medium power fast action seems to be key when playing the 27 game. It's easy for me to get the right action with my st Croix but post COVID those rods are insane $$. My Star rods are decent too but it took a lot of practice and watching the lure in clear water to get it to act right with them.

I have had really good success with Cashion Inshore rods (medium fast action). Made in Sanford NC. Great sensitivity to feel the bite with positive hook sets.

People talk about athletes being "different." Big gator trout are "different." That was fun to watch! Nice work, fellas. (The ol' 27. Been throwing it for years. Love it.)

They sure fight different. That big girl in warm water can sure pull some drag. I've actually thrown 27s for a few years now but only at night. I was always taught to use 17s and I shy away from them because of how many fish I have pop off those small trebles.

Trout in the creeks in June? Interesting. Thought creek fishing was a fall and winter thing.

That was shot in May but I've caught big trout up the creek in July before. Depends on the salinity and bait more than temps.

Nylon fish grippers sure would help reduce those deck drops and still allow quick pix and prompt release.

@@FishingwithBrewski cool and good, I use grippers at gunwale side in my friend’s boat, alongside my yak, or while wading, often rarely touching the fish with my hands unless holding a large one in wet hands for a photo

@@johnkarges8829 I used to do the same until I listened to one of the speckled truth podcasts covering release mortality. It was very enlightening. They actually wiped slime coats off with a towel and all those fish lived just fine but even a tiny bleed from the gills was almost always a death sentence. Either way I should be more gentle than what was demonstrated in the video. I'll do better.

Solid video, brother! Appreciate the tips both out on the water and from the uploads, it helped me up my speck game significantly. You should do a change up trip to the surf while the pomps are here, some real quality fish coming out right now!

Glad you enjoyed man. Hopefully I get the second half finished soon. I've actually been meaning to get down to the surf but Onslow beach has never been consistent for me on pompano. Catch them as bycatch but I can't say I've ever left the house with intent of catching pompano and made it happen. I know I'm doing it right from a tackle and bait perspective just not hitting the proper conditions or location or both.

@@FishingwithBrewski It doesn't help that the "fishing beach" doesn't quite have the same structure of the swimming beaches and then you get limited by training events that block off half the accessible beach

@@FishingwithBrewski Sorry dude, that bit me good last year too. I could see a well-developed trough and run out about 100 yards from where they had the perimeter safety guard posted up and they weren't letting anyone through. Had to fish the choppy sandbars and only managed pigfish. I've done good up at Indian Beach by Emerald Isle, but I finished my move to Wilmington yesterday so I'll be exploring my new waters down here the rest of the year. Might get up that way again for fall, hopefully bump into you out there.

The lure catching all the trout is a mirrolure 27mr in "the truth" color. They're back in stock on the speckled truth shopify page right now but they usually only last a few hours.

Find points that have moving water coming past them and fish both sides of the point. Places where two creeks intersect or where the creek meets the big water will be good as well. Throw topwater early, late, and in any other low light conditions like overcast. Look for the biomass. Most marine life tends to pile up in certain spots with current and/or structure. Clear water will yield better results with trout. Doesn't mean they aren't in the murky stuff but they can see a lure from further away when there is some visibility so find the clean water.
