This video shows the forging of special wrought iron framing chisels we are now offering for sale on our website. These chisels are my own design, a mixture of Japanese and early American framing chisels. They are made of antique wrought iron which gives the most amazing appearance after acid etching and polishing. Very special tools and process, completely unlike anything else in the world.
Chisels are available on our website at mrchickadee.com/tools-for-sale/

My dad’s dad, my grandpa had a small blacksmith shop behind his rent house. I used to crank his blower. Mainly, I was jn the way. He was a man of few words. I went by there years ago. I am not young. The old frame house is gone. The shop is gone. In fact, you would never imagine anything being there before. I remember. I miss him terribly.

i’m sorry for your loss, something similar happened to me where my grandpa had a woodworking shop in the backyard, i would sometimes see what he was up too in there and i have vague memories of playing with his drill press handles. he passed a few years ago and all of the tools were sold. Me and my brother started to turn it into a shop again and there’s a good feeling we get from being in there, unfortunately we will have to move out this summer but his legacy will definitely carry on

such a shame..I was taught by an old gentleman who was a blacksmith on the yorkshire coal fields. He taught me because I asked him how to make the different types of fire to work the steel..(I was about 6) I went back a couple of years after I was forced to move away and his shop was gone, the walls and roof were there but everything else was gone including his beautiful polished clay floor. I'd love to be able to find some of his tools...jeepers that guy knew how to make tools.

My grandpa died two months ago. He was a metalworker at the glider factory in my home town, a master metalworker. He left a lot of his tools in the garage, the drills, angle grinders, welders, files, all that. He taught me to weld and to solder before he left this world, and he promised me that he'd teach me to use the large stationary drill. This, sadly, is a promise that went unfulfilled. I'd love to learn some of this stuff, just as the way of honoring him. On some days the prospect of getting to learn that is the only thing that keeps me going. I miss him, and terribly.

I’ve been watching a channel for years I watch with admiration with your skill you draw us all in. I’m modest wood crafter and I felt compelled to purchase one of your chisels just placed the order. It would be an honor to have something that you actually crafted. Something I hope to hand down to my grandchildren someday.

In this XXI century full of (worldwide) shoddy companies and individuals who just seek for fast money (except, of course, in Japan and South Korea) and full of no respect for hand-work as an active meditation, it's always mind-blowing to watch you, Mr. Chickadee, working as honest and smashing craftsmen worked in centuries XVIII and XIX, where handmade tools were (and still they are) the best ones ever constructed. Thanks so much, gentleman, for your enormous generosity while sharing your unbeatable skills! Each video of you is a gilded homage to self-demanding work.

Wow! They are amazing!! Some day I will buy some. BTW...I receive my Scythe tomorrow. My weedeater went out and I decided to try and switch to a Scythe for weedeating. Your channel has always been so wonderful and inspiring!

You will like a scythe once you get used to it. I still use a weedeater for some hard to reach places, and on a friends lot that is rocky. I was lucky enough to have several corded weedeaters and one battery powered unit given to me, so will probably have enough to last the rest of my life.

Hi Mr. Chickadee. You were my inspiration to start getting into hand tool woodworking (and associated interests like blacksmithing, scythe use etc.) back in 2019 when I was on the cusp of graduating college and figuring out adult life. This craft has been my source of peace in the most chaotic times since then, and has filled my house with furniture and my garage with tools. Thank you for doing this and always being dynamic with the videos you create :^)
