My Friend, in the future when reheating French MRE Rations Meal Entrees, Don't pull back the whole top of the sardine style cans. Just pull the pull tab ring up just enough to break the seal on it. Then place of Esbit Stove to reheat. doing it this way turns the can container into a mini pressure cook. when you see the juices boiling through the broken seal area its fully heated. remove from stove and open can container lid completely off and enjoy. A full Legionnaire friends show me the best way to heat the foods to proper temperature.

Petit Salé is salted pork, usually produced according to a French method of immersing cuts of pork for up to two days in brine. Petit Salé is often used as an abbreviation for the recipe Petit Salé aux Lentilles, a dish containing pork, vegetables and lentils.

Rougail saucisses is rice tomato sauce and sausages from the Island of la Réunion. Petit salé au lentilles is salted pork meat generaly from the shoulder blade and slowy cook for few hours with lentiles onion and carrotes. Normaly Pâté Hénaff is a ham pâté from the part of France call Britany and it's actually reeaaaaaly good but here is what we call rillettes de maquereaux, kinde of mackerel (not tuna) pâté. Riz au lait is rice cook in milk with vanilla, no cheese in it.

dirty is a "chinese" term. pork fried rice is "dirty rice" because it is not "white rice" . So dirty lentils would be lentils that are not "plain". More revealing about how languages are related and not as funny.

@@hubertgizinski7962 Not even close... People talk highly of Russian mre, but the stuff they REALLY give the soldiers... ugh... The beef quality varies greatly and usually the menu consists of same food over and over again. Worst thing about MRE's is when their menu's wont change. US MRE is at least extremely safe to eat, not always as tasty but the main thing is that their menu changes greatly each year based on questionnaire. French MRE is without argument BEST in the world by taste, quality etc.

@Nathans MRE Hello, "Petit salé aux lentilles" translated by "dirty lentilles" ...hahaha, so funny! "salé" in French means "salted" and "sale" means "dirty", from there comes the misunderstanding. And well, "Petit salé" here designates various pieces of pork in brine for preservation. It's its passage in the salt that will give this beautiful pink color to the meat. The pieces of pork are rubbed with coarse salt decorated with sprigs of thyme or rosemary, then placed in a curing bucket, interposing a layer of salt, a layer of meat, a layer of salt ... surround the meat. The container's closed and left for 3 days at room temperature: on contact with the flesh, the salt dissolves and turns into brine. After the 3 days, meat is then brushed to remove the salt and can finally be cooked. :)

French here, the "Petit salé aux lentilles" or "dirty lentils" (lol it was funny) is a famous dish here in France. It comes from Auvergne in the middle of France and it's a good winter dish. I don't know if you tried this ration yet but lentils have a discreet taste, kind of floury (I don't know if this word exist). It really need seasoning with pepper and salt. It's usually cook with pork because pork meat is already very salty. I'm hungry now I will prepare myself a "dirty lentils" now.

Dirty is a pretty generic cooking term. In some ways its considered, common, low class, either in presentation or appearance. Dirty martini for example, is done with olive brine, giving it a slightly cloudy appearance. It was likely originally done to cover up the taste of "lower grade" gins. dirty rice, lentils, or other styles again get their name because they are "dirtied" covered or mixed to lose their natural colors. When plating they produce a "messy plate" as all the food tends to be mixed together, much like on a "common" household meal and not something done by a practiced chef. Some assume dirty means unhealthy, but in fact, dirty foods tend to be more "home cooked style" meals, and lower class. Dirty pasta (not pretty but good), Dirty Macaroni (Croatian Šporki Makaruli )
@gringologie93022 жыл бұрын

Interested to see that the only thing “commando” about this ration is the packaging. I’ve just finished an RCIR, menu 8 and it was the same menu as this (with a different flavour drink and a slightly different dessert, albeit same type). Both mains were delicious...the Petit Salé confused your translator a bit!! We spend a lot of time in France and there is a lot of very high quality tinned food available....none quite as tasty as the RCIR mains though. I’m not really a fan of the new drink mixes though....the artificial sweeteners taste awful. They do seem to be using a wider variety of brands across the chocolate, nougat and energy bars. I really miss the caramels myself. Great review as always.
