What a silly question! What does a country have anything to do with it? It is an innate, evolutionary characteristic, which is deeply imbedded in our psyche & dna. A survival adaptation that we are all subject to, regardless of where you live. It is so primal that we share it with most animal species. Every species can quickly recognize their own as an essential requirement for survival! Similarly, they can also spot differences or "deviation from the pattern". A zebra that lost its stripes due to a health condition will likely be shunned by its herd. They don't shun it bc its different, but bc it stands out & increases risk of predator attack. An albino lion or wild dog may be shunned by its pride or pack, because it is easily spotted, which makes hunting a lot more challenging. Wolves will attack & kill wolves that are not from their pack. Lions will too. Ants are on a whole other level, where they wage literal war on their own kind. As we can see, characteristics that we may think are unique to humans are nothing of the kind. "Us vs. them" concept has been implemented by various organisms, long before Homo Sapiens ever walked the Earth.

We Serbs are also black, only your eyes don't see it that way. Why hate someone because of the color of their skin?! I also did not choose the color of my skin or where I would be born, nor did I choose who my parents would be. We are all exactly the same, and we Serbs are glad when people from other cultures or people of a different skin color visit us. I will not say other races because there is only one race of people regardless of skin color.

In the Serbian Constitution of Sretenj, promulgated on February 15 1835 in Kragujevac, it was said that every slave who steps on the soil of Serbia becomes a free man at that moment. This happened 177 years ago, making Serbia one of the first countries in the world to speak about basic human rights. Meanwhile, black people in Belgium were living in cages...

one of the reasons Romania and Serbia are considered racist is that we don't stand useless political correctness. we call black people black people, because that's what they are, not because we consider them lesser beings. We don't use stuff like African-American and such. We call gay people gay because that's what they are, wtf IS non-binary and they/them and such stupid things? it's called bisexual and so on. we like to be direct and not mess around with words that can be easily interpreted just because we actually don't want to be misunderstood. Why should i call myself caucasian or eastern-european or whatever when i'm white? you get the idea, we are NOT racist (of course there are small exceptions everywhere), we are just sincere and direct! :)

this is very true. In most of western countries they see us as rude, just because we say truth and we do not like to use politically correct words... I mean me personally, when I have to use politically correct words, everybody in the room can tell it was no my choice and that I do not mean it as they do. It is not natural language for me and it bothers me to talk like that.

Ahh yes not racist but you'll have wars and genocide those of the same genetic makeup as you(like Croats, Bosniaks, etc). The reason you are not racist and can be "nice" right now is because nobody is threatening your nation with replacement of your culture. If you had a million + Chinese(just as an example), most of your countrymen would become racist very quickly. When something doesn't affect us then we can easily be nice to others because it's free, doesn't cost anything (the nice Chinese person coming on vacation is very different from many of them living in your nation). When it does, everything changes and we become very evil sob's. The most racist countries today are those who have a ton of diversity today but were not diverse countries before(America, Canada, Britain, France).

I don't know how far back in history you want to go about religious wars, but the Serbian feudal lords fought a long series of wars against the Bosnian Bogomils between the 9th and 12th centuries with more or less success. The Balkan Wars between 1904 and 1912 were basically religious wars against the Ottoman Empire with the result of killing and ethnically cleansing Serbia, Bulgaria and Greece of most of their Muslims. The Bosnian and Kosovo civil war can be called a religious war because the other side was mostly Muslim, and Serbia was Orthodox, but some do not see the forest for the trees or want to forget the Serbian historical and religious reality.

@@markorsrpska7230 Why, don't forget we never retaliated upon the catholics for their involvement in the killing of Serbs by Croats during WW2. Catholic priests partook actively. Let's also not forget how most Turks actually up and left on their own, rather than getting cleansed. You omitted to mention that the Ottomans settled Albanian muslims in Kosovo, around Skadar and around Ohrid to terrorize the Serb civilians. Bogomils in Bosnia were Serbs. Besides, many princedoms from the Holy Roman Empire partook in the bloody 30 years' war, and nobody's calling modern-day Germans a people plagued by a past of religious wars, or as religious fanatics. There was no "long sequence" of wars against Bogomilism; it came, went and disappeared, while the most renowned rulers of Bosnia crowned themselves in monasteries that were property of the Serbian Orthodox Church. Hell we don't have records of a single skirmish, just exile; a pretty light punishment for the Middle Ages, where countries like England had proscribed for traitors, for instance, a gruesome death coined "Drawn, hanged and quartered". Protestants from the Alps to Sweden burned by the hundreds those they deemed to be witches in the 16th century, but nobody brings that up, or by fault shifts blame to the Inquisition (Which is to blame for plenty too). The break-up of Bosnia & Herzegovina was religious, because "Bosniaks" wanted to separate themselves from their ethnic and religious roots, and called for a cleansing of the land off Christians, Serbs and Croats chiefly among them. You can place the blame for that on their doorstep, and they got off pretty light, with massive support from USA and NATO. They still failed in their task, naturally. Have a good one.

@@markorsrpska7230 War against Ottoman was not religious, it was war to preserve culture under their influence. But people still had a free will and many changed their religion for more bread in Bosnia because they lived in hard conditions. Kosovo was invaded by Albanian terrorists and NATO it had nothing to do with religion, Albanians lived on Kosovo with their schools and more rights than Serbians had there. About Bogomils, Roman church started converting people to their side, it was in the land where Croatia is now, and those people started doing what Roman church wanted from them, and they were creating problems in the Country.

You don't think Serbia can handle 85 million migrants? Racist. You said the N word when you were 8? Racist again. Now if you are sane and don't think modern western definition of racism is valid, then most people in the world are not racist, even if they occasionally use a slur or mention a stereotype.

My little story : I'm Serbian born, we came to Canada in 1974 to a city of Kitchener, Ontario !! Our Serbian folklore group shared a dance hall for practice at multicultural center with a Jamaican group so we befriended each other ! There were not many black people or Serbian people in our city back than as is the case now there are 10's of thousands of each !! One day my dear friend invited me to a Jamaican club(I love Rege music, like love it). Back then there was A LOT OF RACISM which I never understood until I learned the history of slavery and all. I went to the club with her, and I did notice that I was the only white ass in the place and I made the comment to her at which time she replied that I was the 1st white person to have walked in their club. To this day I'm still very proud of that if I may call it "privilege and honor" !!

Thank you for posting videos about my country - Serbia. Racism in Serbia ? Let me tell you some facts that you may didn't know mister Giant... In Serbia, according to the "Constitution of Sretenje", as early as 1835, there was a law that whoever was a SLAVE and came to the territory of the Principality of Serbia, could be considered a free man who is no longer a slave. " *_A slave who sets foot on Serbian soil is automatically freed from slavery and becomes a free man._* "

Serbian prisoners / slaves in history needed to work in Serbia for 1 year after they are captured, under someone's roof but in the house for themselves, all by the law. They had all the freedom and they could marry and start a family as well. After 1 year they had to decide if they want to stay or they want to leave.

Staring in Serbia isn't about racism or hating... it's about curiosity :o not many foreign people here and Serbs are very hospitable and friendly. I remember stories from WW1 when European soldiers would usually refrain from interacting with soldiers from colonies but Serbs would invite them to their Slava (Each family in Serbia has designated patron saint which has it's own specific calendar date) to celebrate xD I remember a story of a football player who got stranded in Serbia because he got scammed by Italian football club or something xD Serbs helped him out and he even got a place to stay and eventually citizenship, I think... He decided to chose which Slava he will celebrate on his own xD

Serbia as a country rich in national parks, gorges, mountains, heathers. I live in the central part of Serbia on the very border of regions that do not have a defined border, Pomoravlje and Sumadija. With the Serbian people, you will not find 70 percent of what others tell you. As for skin color, if you're in a small town or in the countryside, people will only look at you to see if you're a soccer player or a basketball player or a stray celebrity, that's all.

I am from Serbia, I live in Serbia. How can we be racists, I have seen a black person maybe 15 times in my life. I can't hate black people, because I don't know them. And when I see some of them, they are interesting. Especially their women, with their interesting hair. To hate some kind of people, somebody must TEACH you to hate. Or you should have some bad experiences. Or you should have some special inclination to it, based on experiences. In Serbia, we don't have that. We love all kinds of strangers, even from the countries that made us a lot of evil things, and they still do it. Like the UK, America, and France, we don't reject anyone. We will always be hospitable. My best friend ever was an American (he died).

We Serbs have our own complexities, but these are our local family feuds with other ethnic groups in Balkans. We don't have problems with Germans, after fighting two world wars against them. We don't have problems with Turks after 500 years of being subjugated to the Otoman Empire. No, we are too busy with our own squabbles with other ethnic groups in the Balkans, and between ourselves (something called 1st and 2nd Serbs...).

So you can imagine how people came to love eachother as equals back then, maybe on some ideological and political lines, but more as people who fought for their independence. All over the Serbia there is the feeling that we are on the same side of history fighting the western and other empires for our freedom so we have much in common, and even cultures are similar when it comes to values. So the skin color is nothing, but the spirit we share is everything. Glad you are loving Serbia! I have some african american friends here in Serbia and they are all saying the same thing.

Most people in Serbia have never seen a black person with their own eyes, live. So, when it does happen, they do stare at you, but that is out of curiosity. After a while, that stops. In my hometown, there is a black girl that married a Serbian guy. At first, people were staring at her, it was unusual. Now, everybody treats her as if she was born here and they've known her for entire life. We just don't care about skin color. And most people in Eastern Europe are famous for hospitality.

One thing about balkan people is that we can only make fun about everyone and everything. That is the only instance when we can seem as racists but in actuality we just don't have any filter. The reason behind our humour is that we don't have any history of enslaving any race or religion. About the staring, yeah it happens because we don't have a lot of other races other than white and it is interesting for us. We want to communicate but don't know how to approach without seeming rude or pushy. That's why the staring happens.

I remember during the 80s, we had many black students from Africa as a part of student exchange programs between Serbia (then Yugoslavia) and African countries. I was just a little kid back then, and my parents used to send me to the store nearby for some groceries. There, I would often run across black students buying stuff, and while waiting at the register they'd always communicate with me. I couldn't speak English at that time, so we understood each other on a more basic level. They've always been very warm and polite, and I could really feel good intentions from their side. Serbians judge people not by the color of their skin of something silly as that, but whether a person has good intentions and set of moral values. During my childhood, I've never heard from anyone around me a racist comment or anything similar concerning black people, quite the opposite. They were just people, like anyone else, nothing more, nothing less. On the other side, if you come from the outside and you want to spread you political agenda, influence society in a bad way, undermine family values... Then you better take good care of yourself, because Serbians are very wary people.

The word for giant in Serbian is DIV as in divine. Divno means wonderful, to divi is to admire. It is the inverse of VID which means sight, to see. It is also the name of our ancient sun God Svetovid, the seer of the world. We love giants, we have many among us. You will have a great time here. 😊

Hey Mr. Giant, I think that you're doing a good work making all these videos about Serbia, and I really enjoyed watching your reactions and commentary, but I think that focusing too much on all the good things of Serbia and failing to mention the bad things isn't a good thing, and I say this as someone who lives in Serbia, we do have many great things and you covered many of them already, but I think that to keep the videos true and transparent it would be a good idea for you to make a reaction on the bad things in Serbia too, keep in mind every country has problems. Here's an example video that I found about Serbia from a youtuber I like to watch, which I think is really informative about the bad things in this country, it's called "Things I Hate About Living in Serbia" and it's made by "Living Ironically in Europe", Thank you for the great work and greetings from Serbia.

The reason why I focus on the good things is because so many already focus on the bad things about everything. We watch the news and all we see is the bad things happening around the world very rare you see stories about good deeds anymore.

There was interesting story from WW1 when Serbian soldiers met African soldiers for the first time, they said that English and French look African soldiers "from height" but Serbs didn't do that, Serbians said that they respect African strength sacrifice for justice!

I will put my two cents worth on question of Roma minority in Serbia: During WW2, Serbs did not seize situation as opportunity to get rid of Jews or Roma unlike in some other areas of Balkans or Eastern Europe. Sure, many became victims during WW2 but that was mostly driven by occupiers. Is Roma situation poor? It clearly is. It can be much better and blame for that can be put on the authorities as clearly they are not doing enough to ensure that young Roma children attend school without exception. Too many are on the street rather than in classroom. Without education, there is little prospect for having a good job. Without education these children follow their parents to a life where one survives on menial low paid jobs, if one is lucky to get one.

I would need to point that this question is asked from the wrong perspective. My husband was American, and we moved to the small town in Serbia. Few years ago, when our son was in the preschool, his class went for a picnic. During a play, my son's classmates took him to the bushes and kept him as a war prisoner and later took him for a staged execution - because he was American. Teachers sow this as a random kids play, there was no interference. Later in the elementary school other children kept calling my son a murderer - because he is American - again, no interference. Black Americans are seen here as allies, while white Americans / Europeans are perceived as aggressors, oppressors and implementers of neocolonial agenda.

That is true. Here in Canada where I am working with 80% black people. They call me you white people, like we are some garbage and you can not say anything they accused you that you are racist. And actually only racist in Canada are black people not any other. Not people from India, not people from Canada, not people from Philippines....

I am sorry for that... but we did same thing to german kids in schools for decades after WWII... It is even in some of old movies... It will not change until USA change their attitude toward Serbs. We do not like to be called terrorists in holywood movies, especially as we had only one act that can be described as terrorist in our entire history.

Sounds about right. Serbs do have resentments toward diff occupation forces troughout history. Same towards neighbours who served those forces. Has nothing to do with race, but history, and still being pressured by those forces. But, that shouldn't be a thing towards ordinary people. Especially not kids.

I will laugh or say some joke privately that would be considered racist (more like stereotype), but i will never look at another person no matter the skin color, sexual orientation etc... and think they are lesser. I will treat everyone with respect that treats me with respect.

Greetings from Serbia. Let me explain. Of course there are individuals who are sick, including racists, but those are individuals, in general we have people of all colors, nationalities, religions and traditions in Serbia forever. We have our black people, gypsies, who have been with us forever. We don't call them that, we call them Serbs, because they live here, give birth to children, go to school and so on, they have the same rights as us. People from Africa have always been coming to us, when they were slaves in Europe, they were free people in Serbia. It is the first article of our Constitution since liberation from the Turks in 1835, when we were slaves in our country. Every man who is a slave and who sets foot on the soil of Serbia is a free man, it is written in our Constitution, and it is so even today. In the First World War, Serbia formed the first Black Guard from people who stayed with us from the French army, for example. We have the largest Museum of African Art and Culture in Europe in Belgrade, the first Buddhist temple in Europe was built here, all religions are present today and are treated equally, in the capital there are all their religious objects, but also throughout the country. We have a large number of students from Africa and today, we have a lot of international marriages and children from those marriages. I repeat, there are crazy people in every country, even in our country, who will make negative comments, but in general we like it when people come to visit us or stay. You are welcome to Serbia.

@@polarbearmedium The topic is generally stupid for Serbia and without foreigners here of any skin color because we Serbs ourselves are of various colors. It depends on the region. You have Serbs who are white as snow, with blue eyes, light and dark brown with green or brown and black eyes. We have all the colors by ourselves, the others only complement us and generally enrich us with their presence because they bring new traditions and cultures with them, and we love that.
