Epiphone J-200 Inspired By Gibson Review
This is one of about 4 other guitars that Epiphone is creating in they're "Inspired By Gibson" line up. They are also making the J-45 and the Hummingbird. All of these models are made with all solid wood, no laminates in these guitars.
Epiphone is selling them at a fraction of what the Gibson guitars cost and the quality, at least in the one we have here, is top shelf.
I have never really liked the Gibson J-200 but this one has a wicked sound and I will be getting one for myself some day... Some day.

I couldn't agree more Randy. Like I said in my videos, I don't know why Gibson is allowing Epiphone to make these guitars because they are going to directly compete. You will have those that will say "If it's not America made, I don't want it", and that's a shame. They are still owned by Gibson. The quilted maple on Noah's J200 is some of the nicest I've seen too.

They are Elixir 80/20 Bronze Nanoweb 12 to 53 light gauge. We have also run the 13 to 56 gauge on it and they sound great too. We tend to stick to light to medium gauge strings on all our guitars. My guitar didn't come with the humidfier. I only saw one video more on you tube, where it was included. I believe they shop them with a humidfier at ramdom. It's not included standard. Funny you mentioned you didn't like the Gibson J200. I had one 5 years ago and was disappointed by it's volume and projection so I returned it. The sound was warm tho. I also have an Eastman AC630 Jumbo and that one is a real beast,blows a Gibson out of the water. The epiphone J200 is a tad less IMHO. But that's ok, since it is also cheaper. And indeed mine didn't have the flames like the one in the video on the backside. But I love the grain of the wood on mine.
@HayesTech
@HayesTech 3 жыл бұрын
My guess is that the place I purchased it from, "The Music Zoo", must have included it with guitar. A very nice touch on their part. The Gibson SJ-200s that I heard played all seemed to have twangy sound. That's the only way I can describe it. But after purchasing and playing so many different guitars in my lifetime, one thing I found out is that no 2 guitars sound the same. And that's especially true for all solid wood guitars. Wood is just like that. I always tell people to play the guitar, if they can, before purchasing it. Thank you again for watching and for the comments, I really do appreciate it.

Gibson J200s have a smooth, midrange sound and they're designed to sing along without overpowering the singer. Some say the muted sound is due to the large pickguard. Chet Atkins would order his J200s with a smaller guard to let the guitar reverberate more.

I own the tobacco burst version of this inspired by j200 and it is the best acoustic I have ever heard and played (I am mainly an electric player) I ordered one because I wanted a guitar to write on as well as take to university as part of my degree is in acoustic as well as electric guitar, my deal was I would buy one if it's sounds right and looks right to me...this did not disappoint, I'm used to epiphones having veneers but I own a gibson les paul 60's unburst and I could tell by the way it moved in the light...this was no veneer and from inside the soundhole the wood was flamed, then I started playing and it brought me straight to the sort of music I love and the artists I listen to, I am a huge noel gallagher fan as much as I love oasis and rocking out through a marshall tube amp I equally love sitting down and playing this guitar to him isolated just playing his acoustic as soon as I saw he had a gibson out and the price tag I knew people got slightly swindled on it as he played even lower quality epiphone j200's from the 90's so whoever reads this comment hand to God listen to the people in this video and buy one before gibson decides it's too good and discontinues them.

I know for a fact that epiphone J200 doesnt come from the factory with a humidifier because Ive owned 3 of them and neither one came with a Humidifier and neither did they come with the case the case is sold seperately although some retail companies include a case with the sale but they jack the price up way higher than it wouldve been if you had bought the case and guitar seperately which is why I do all my guitar and string buying either at musicians friend or sweetwatrer . The one thing I disagree with you on is that humidifier in that guitar. And if you dont believe me you talk to Jerry Rosa A MIGHTY FINE LUTHIER IN MOUSOURI about humidifying a guitar and see what he tells you. If you will look on any guitar where you lay your bare arm you will find the finish cracked. why?? because of the moisture in your arm. you should NEVER EVER introduce moisture into a guitar unless you live in a dessert area like Arizona where the air is COMPLETELY dry. Why do you think Guitar companies let that would dry and cure for years in a climate controlled environment before they use it?? To get the moisture content DOWN to an acceptable level and if you keep your guitar in a case such as the one you have those cases are made to maintain that moisture level and theyCANNOT do that if you put that HUMIDIFIER into that guitar. I always wipe my guitar off as soon as I get done playing it to remove as much moisture from it as possible.

It's made of actual maple. Solid maple. Not mahogany or rosewood. Maple is not known for it's intense bass. As I said before, in almost all of my videos, each person has their own personal preferences. I would never tell you that your guitar is junk, even though it's also not made in the US either. You like the guitar and that's what matters. As far as the "inspired by Gibson" line up that Epiphone offers, Gibson has almost total control and keeps a very close eye on what is being released under that moniker. I like them. Thousands of other people like them. So they must be doing something right. Thanks again for the comments.

@@jtarman70 And I agree, that for someone who has your same preferences in a guitar, there may be other options. But for my taste in guitar sound, I like this one. But with what they are doing now, with the "Inspired by Gibson" line and their Masterbuilt line, they are finnally making good, quality, all solid wood guitars again. I love Guild Gitars too. Guild formed from the luthiers of Epiphone, starting up their own company after Gibson purchased Epiphone. So I have a soft spot for Guild too. I wasn't trying to argue with you either. But no one can change my mind about these all solid wood guitars coming out of the Epiphone plant. I love them. But if you are going to get a guitar that has laminated back and sides, there are way better choices than Epiphone.

They are very good guitars, at a fraction of the cost of the Gibson originals. Again, some prefer the sound of the Gibson J-200, I actually prefer the sound of this one from Epiphone. Just make sure it's an "Inspired by Gibson" model, that's made in Indonesia. If it's an Epiphone J-200 made in China, it's not the all solid wood versions, with Gibson techs overseeing their production. There is a difference. Any of the non-cuttaway models in the "Inspired by Gibson" line up (they don't have the sustain and volume as the non cut-away versions). The "inspired by Gibson" line up includes: the J-200, J-45 and the Hummingbird. Again, all very good guitars. Just make sure they are made in the Indonesian plant. Other guitars to consider are the Texan, Exellente and the Frontier, which are all in the "Masterworks" group. All solid wood and made with the same care as the "inspired by Gibson" series. Again, made in the Indonesian plant. Thanks so much for watching and for commenting. I do appreciate it.
