Very good video. With millions of new gun owners, it's a good idea to help everyone learn the right way to maintain their firearms. I can remember when I was trained to clean the M16A1 somewhere around 1984... I still wake up in a cold sweat thinking about "when is it clean enough." The horror... Lol Thank you for the video.

I am a new GX4 owner. No experience since hunting with my father and using his .38 a few times to kill a few cans. Most of my experience is with a 4-10 when I was 10 - 14. I was successful with it. I have many BB pistols which prep me somewhat. So I know the basics and hsve bird and squirrel hunted with a lot of doves and squirrels brought home to my mom to fry up. I am taking the VA safety course for my concealed carry permit before I start going all Rambo at the range. I havn't even shot my GX4 yet. I think the slide spring is very stiff and I try to cycle it every day over and over about 40 times. I have the stock 11+1 clip. I bought an extended pinky grip for $6 and $35 for an extended 13+1 clip & grip that I love. Plus 1 standard 11+1 clip. So that is about 38 rounds so cycling it 40 times a day is prep for that. I want to make sure I am not damaging the slide or spring but this is what the shop said to do to: A. Get me used to it B. Get the gun loosened up just a tiny bit. My father always used mineral oil and gun oil I don't know what CRP is other than Corrosion and Rust Protection which I WILL buy (now that you showed it.) Overall, your video helped this NOOB out. It is a privilege to own and (conceal) carry a firearm. I bought 200 practice/copper rounds for it and 2 boxes of hollow tip. Thanks again, Chris in VA.

Do you clean your magazines or is it just a simple wipe
@E52O4
@E52O4 Жыл бұрын
The answer to your question is “it depends”. If you’re only doing indoor range shooting, then I recommend disassembling and cleaning your magazines whenever you find the followers start to bind when loading them. For EDC pistols, I unload and clean once every six months or so. If you shoot outdoors and drop magazines on the ground, you might want to clean the magazines after your range session. I’m only one data point, but if I think the magazine needs to be disassembled and cleaned I do it. Hope that helps you out…

@What's Up? I only own Taurus revolvers for obvious reasons. You don't want to use vintage and collectable OLD S&W, Colt and Ruger revolvers for things like a tacklebox bass boat gun or a garage/barn gun. Something you carry while working on vehicles, tractors or while doing lawn work. For semi-autos there are much better options for not that much more money. GLOCK being the number #1 choice for a serious upgrade. For a couple hundred more you can do so much better! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/prlgaJqdsLvYc6c.html

You don't degrease the grip after cleaning?
@E52O4
@E52O4 Жыл бұрын
He uses a CLP (cleaner, lubricant, protectant - it’s 3 in 1). On video, he states that you don’t ever truly wipe all of the CLP away. I’m one of those guys that still uses Frog Lube. Once you understand how to do initial cleaning and treating of parts, it’s almost as easy as breakdown and wipe off the carbon/dirt. I tend to clean firearms after range sessions, as well as every quarter or so if the firearms are used as my EDC. Like a lot of firearms owners, I learned maintenance in the military. Once you’ve figured out how it breaks down, it’s almost muscle memory. I say “almost”, because whenever I break down a firearm the procedure always involves removing magazines and clearing chambers - definitely something you want to do deliberately to avoid NDs (negligent discharges). My anal retentive tendencies make for a safe evolution.

Cracks me up, all the Taurus haters here. They like to talk trash, yet can't tell you why their choice is actually better than this new little Taurus (other than because they paid twice as much for it). If you were to put all the micro double stack 9's on a table with no markings on them, and nobody knew which one was which, and let people shoot them all, folks would pay just as much for the Taurus as they would for any of the others. With the ergonomics and the best trigger, with the exception of maybe the Shield Plus, I bet more would pick the GX4 over all the rest. lol I like the fact that I can pay 1/2 as much and get the same amount of firearm. A red dot for 5-10 yards is a total waste of money, so an optics ready slide brings no value to the table here.

If you want a GLOCK or HK buy a GLOCK or HK. If you want a good Taurus buy a 856 6-shot .38 Special snubnose revolver. Buy 2 of them one in black and one in stainless. I wouldn't touch their semi-autos with a 10 foot pole but own a pair of their 856s. While not a S&W, Colt or Ruger they are much cheaper and great for beaters. Not gonna put that vintage S&W, Colt or Ruger revolver into a tacklebox or toolbox anytime soon. Would you ride your lawn tractor and use a weed-eater, chainsaw etc..etc.. with one either?! How about working on vehicles and keeping a gun handy and close by just in case somebody charges into your garage/barn or up your driveway late at night? For their purpose they are ideal

It's a great little gun, and plenty accurate. It's a micro sized 9mm and you have to learn how to properly grip and fire it to be accurate. 95% of folks will shoot low and left with it. I did as well until I took the time to correct what I was doing wrong. I can shoot 3" groups all day long with it from 7-10 yards. That's all it needs to do. Gotta remember this is a personal defense tool, not a bullseye shooting range gun.
