We have a crack at getting the Stolly with the missing wheels running. it hasn't ran for 30 years!

I love how these things can look like utter scrap, but with what appears a relatively small amount of effort in some key places and they work again. Brilliant to watch.

Cracking videomand impressive how robust our old engineering tech is. Having been left to the ravages of time and nature so long. I doubt modern military vehicles much like our road cars would be that robust or even able to get them going as all the electronics would be obsolete and non repairable. Cant wait to see the follow up video. Great work guys, love what you are doing.

Some good memories of being in the back of a Stolly or two as kids when me and my brothers were able to clamber all over various vehicles as part of a base 'family day' when my father was stationed in Germany - Stolly, AVREs of various types, Chieftain (just before the introduction of the Challenger I) and FV432s, not to mention the Chinook and Herc though sadly not in the air
@dickdegraaff54528 ай бұрын
Dear Joseph, The Foden 6x6 Recovery Truck looks absolutely beautiful again but she’s a heavy smoker😀 As long as the engine of this Stolly is cranking it’s a good indication that it will run and she almost did. Following my previous comment I really have to advice you to remove the engine and try to get her running and story the engine for a back up for the first Stolly you collected. This Stolly can be used for spare parts storage as well. The other Stolly should be restored because that’s not a too big issue in comparing with this one. Wish you all the best and send you love from the Netherlands

We never threw batteries away. Most can be recharged to some potential. We’d put them on a trolley, connected together, and used for jump starting older vehicles. Very handy for jump starting old Coles mobile cranes when it’s minus 5 outside!
@glynluff25958 ай бұрын
You didn’t notice the corner was split then?
@timbur27118 ай бұрын
how big was that trolley lol
@akula97138 ай бұрын
@@timbur2711 about four foot wide by 6-8 foot long. The apprentices, of which I was one back in the 70s, had the responsibility of maintaining the batteries, and hauling them to wherever they were needed in the foundry or its yards. The batteries were older forklift batteries, no good for cold starting a single forklift, mobile crane, or dumpster, but when paralleled up, would have enough juice to start anything. Cold weather was the worst when the temperatures drop below zero for long periods. Lead acid batteries don’t do well in cold weather, so a warm trolley load of batteries, kept warm in the fitting shop, on a constant low current trickle did the job! You make the best of what you’ve got!
