It’s been a while since last video. Nevertheless, I’m back and today I want to share with you a helpful tool. How to know your coverage of anatomy even though having different slice thickness between the sequences.

Pretty cool to take note of it. The most common application for this would be in the abdomen where you have 2D and 3D axial slices that you need to overlap as coverage. Or any other 2D + 3D sequence protocol . In my country everyone does every 2D to be the same slice thickness , for example your head protocol that you used Bac. If you're scanning a T2, T2 flair, t1 , DWI all axials, then it's a must that all of them have the exact nr of slices, distance factor and ofc slice thickness .

Especially helpful when setting up 2D and 3D sequences like abdomen or breast studies. Also if you use a phase FOV>100% to see what your phase FOV is in relation to your frequency FOV

I do not use it as much, but as you said sometimes we have to optimise parameters to get the same coverage. My question is, would the resolution will be affected if we increased the distance factor? And can we apply if ofer 3D seq ?

Distance factor will not affect resolution. However it will affect coverage. Higher distance factor means you will lose what’s in between two slices. In 3D slice coverage doesn’t exist because you do a volume.

@@umminasrah3253 number of slices you can't change i believe. So it covers the whole anatomy. Area of scanning in all planes.

On c spine sag or ax, where do you place your sat band. How far from the vertebrae would you say you put it
@Nguyen_MRI
@Nguyen_MRI Жыл бұрын
Close as possible to vertebrae. But sometimes I don’t use sat either because phase is head feet.

Sat bands should also cover the great thoracic vessels and the heart since they can cause pulsation artifacts even from outside the FOV (mainly with head feet encoding).

@@Nguyen_MRI I've been an MRI tech for 7 years, the only reason I ask is a radiologist was watching me set one up and said I was cutting it way too close even though it didn't cover any of the vertebrae or disk space. I usually just try to cover the esophagus/trachea if they swallow... He had me move it about an inch on the screen anteriorly...I thought have I been doing this wrong the whole time. Thanks for the vindication
