Rest in Peace, my love. I just discovered you passed away June 29, 2020. I am just heart broken to hear this. It didn't even make the rounds on the news circuit. You are no longer suffering in pain with Parkinson's disease. You are now singing every night in front of a packed house in Heaven, before God, Jesus, and all the Angels. We will always love you, Benny, and this will always be OUR song! You have finally been lifted up into the night!!!

I saw that performance too, it was just heartbreaking! And it was so sweet when the audience was singing along, and kept on singing, when he had to stop for a minute.

He wrote this song for a young lady and her daughter who was a neighbor they had very little money so he took on a second job to help them and wrote this song for them no sexual intention at all a friend of his change the change the words to make it seem like a love song but it was really the love he had for the little girl and the mother where the they were left by the father. He helped support them.

This song is unique for being one of only 10 recordings to ever ascend to the top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart twice. The chartings, in 1980 and 1989, were of the same recording. One of the greatest vocal performances in history. No one else could copy cat this song and if they tried we would all burn him at the stake. I was 18, she was 16yrs old. Her rich parents made us break up. Recorded this amazing song off the radio, played it, rewound it, played it, repeat idek how many times bawling my eyes out for days. You couldn’t get her back 2 years later? I know. Been there. I fell hard for the girl of my dreams. Everyone said we were the cutest couple they knew while in college. I was the happiest I had ever been in my life. We were basically living g with each other for 6 months then out of the blue, she broke it off. I still have no idea why, here, 40 years later. Right now, I’m very happily married for 33 years. She’s divorced. Her husband left her. I feel bad for her. You never forget your first love. I was crying everyday for months.

I hope that listening to this gives you solace. I listen to it because of what my life was like growing up enduring narcissistic abuse from my father. I had always hoped for someone to notice and offer help, but it didn't come until I was well into adulthood. I am forever grateful to those who helped later. I am sorry they didn't give you a chance. Their loss!

I thank him for his service in Vietnam. He had natural talent. I heard this song in Malls, Grocery Stores, Laundry Mats, Elevators, Bus Metro, and here at the Bus station in Mexico City. Very popular song.

Benny wasn't a "one hit wonder" as in this song was #1three times after 1980, but I agree with you. hard to believe that his other songs didn't get the same accolades. many were great. RIP Benny- See you down the road.

This is one of the MOST BEAUTIFUL SONGS of all-time, and one of my all-time favorites!!! It has come to my attention, that it's a huge shame that i see people with very low IQ'S and zero understanding, saying wrong things about this song, today. They don't take the time to research the true meaning of the lyrics, the song, it's creation, nothing. What a pity that they are so ignorant, but too bad, as they are missing all the magic!!! This is one of the greatest Love songs of all-time!! Reached # 1 -3 times, in several different decades, is pure genius in lyrics, music, counterpoint, and arrangement of instruments!! Just beautiful, priceless, and a musical Masterpiece!! And I will say this, again...i still wish I was that girl, with Benny, in the story. Rest easy, sweet Prince, in Heaven!
