That tribute to Senna by Dale Earnhardt basically concreted his place in my heart for what a champion really is

Ayrton wasn't the first Formula 1 casualty that weekend in San Marino in May 1994, Roland Ratzenberger was killed in a qualifying crash the previous day. Luckily, though, Senna and Ratzenberger were the only two deaths in San Marino for everyone else to be hurt physically in some way (Rubens Barrichello in a practice accident, plus some mechanics due to a pitstop problem for someone and some fans for a wreck that sent debris their direction) survived.

@@corbinselanne7990 there's a crazy and pretty sad theory about how Italian law at that time dictated that if there was a fatality at a sporting event, the event would be stopped, pending an investigation. Poor Roland passed away almost immediately, but they argued that Qualifying was a separate event. Then, so the race would not be stopped, the hospital kept Ayrton on life support, even tho there was no chance of recovery, until the race finished. I wonder if there's any truth to this. Also, as far as I'm concerned, any mention from Sr. in this situation is a tribute - remember he didn't express emotions very often. It was only as he got older that he mellowed. It seems crazy to say now but back then a lot of Nascar fans had no love for f1. Rip Ayrton and Dale, two of the best to ever do it.

@@micky2549 local dirt tracks stop the event in the case of a fatality not because of law but in respect to the family I've hauled a hundred miles down the highway only to come back home because a guy got killed in the hot lap practice and rightly so it took all of the emotion out of the evening it was sad and I mean really sad watching a man losing his life in front of your eyes should they just have bagged him drug his smashed carcass of a car off the track and carried on while people are crying and traumatized bye what they just witnessed and you have to take in the fact that most people haven't witnessed a person meeting his demise in such a violent manner

the 2 and 3 paying tribute to the fallen still sends chill bumps down me every time i see it. but why the flags they got? i mean rusty and alan were probably as close as brothers and no offense to you dale fans but probably closer than alan was with dale by far (just cause they'd known each other MUCH LONGER) and by same token dale was probably closer to davey for the same reason. or was it decided between them prerace who ever won the championship would cary alans and if the other won the race he'd get the 28 and if someone else won the race they'd get the 28? just curious not trying to be disrepectful. just thought it was odd given the backgrounds of the fallen heros.

How was the Almirola clip selfless or did you just need to get over 10 minutes? Every other clip was genuinely selfless, drivers recognizing that there's a story bigger than themselves, I just feel like "Ahh, *I* am so bummed that *I* almost won the Daytona 500 and now *I* am at the care center *I* hate it so much" just doesn't fit in at all. I think how Larson responds to his championship deserves to be in #3. Every time it comes up he mentions that he definitely wouldn't have won it without his crew and immediately after he crossed the line he thanked his crew before anything else. More selfless than man I hate that I lost this race I totally could've won the biggest race!
