Making great progress Mr. Pete. I agree with Paul Jenkins. I got used to the light very quickly. This past winter I changed all my machine task lights to LED at 5000 Kelvin. It really helps older eyes see more clearly.

It's true that increasing scene lighting does help with loss of visual accomodation (e.g. presbyopia). Pupillary constriction increases depth of focus, just as it would in a camera lens. That said, the advantage isn't necessarily as important unless it's in first person. The camera usually has fewer problems maintaining focus than someone with presbyopia or IOL implants, and so long as the viewer can focus at the fixed distance of the monitor, they effectively inherit the abilities of the camera. While both are important, I think that contrast (i.e. depth and contour) is more effective at making clear video/photography than brightness alone. Lighting angle is a tool that's worth using.

Mr. Pete, I too have been calling them Stubby drills for over 50 years. I've never had anyone not know what I was referring to. I've never ordered one, always made them as needed. Thanks for your effort in making and sharing these wonderful videos!

Thanks for asking and getting the LED's, I'm good either way. You can drop a notch on the white balance or use a diffuser if you want. We all need more light in our lives...I'm usually a Stinker about such things but the quality isn't in the lighting as much as what you bring. A 1000 ways to do something in the shop, but there is Only 1 way Mr. Pete does it and always a pleasure to learn and have some fun. Who knew lady bugs like Quaker State...for a minute anyway. Come to think of it they do have that rancid smell of sulfur/paraffin to them. Good to know I was wrong about the oil and gear material. Great series so far, Thanks! BTW, never Boring in my book.

Great work MrPete! The LED is bright, but the camera seems to adjust fairly quickly. Fit a diffuser for the light if need be. This is an interesting project! See you in part 4.

+1 for the LED. Very nice lighting from that. If you want a good dead-blow hammer, try Proto or Trusty-Cook. Estwing also makes a few.

That blue light, yuk!! Lotsa glare. You can hang some tracing paper in front of it to knock that down a bit. The old light has more red, warmer. So it is easier on my eyes. More like sunshine than that horrible LED stuff. Reminds me of: "We have a blue light special in aisle 13, Women's Combat Boots for $5.95!!" I love the little nuggets you throw in: HF hammer, oil soaked bugs, etc.... Can't skip around with that machining goodness sprinkled all through the video. Thanks, Professor Pete!!

All your videos have had great lighting and camera angles. A moment or two after you compared the lights, I'd forgotten which was which. I think you should use whatever works best for you.

Nice video. A ground surface would be nice for looks. Like your operation explanations. My LED lights have the option of adjusting the intensity and warmth. Got them 30 bucks each at the big membership store.

Mr. Pete, I think the LED light is an improvement. It does appear to be daylight color temperature which give the blue cast. You can buy an orange gel which will make it match your other lights if you want.

Both lighting manners are good. I would opt for the LED, if you are not machining aluminum that is too shiny. VERY nice video set. Love your work.

Great video Mr Pete. Not berating your work flow you are doing great work but i have found that turning a shaft to fit a bored hole is much easier. Therefore i would have bored slightly undersize and turned the part to fit.

Only item I really noticed was the color change with the brighter light of your Bridgeport but that actually allowed you to see the machine work better. Your old lighting may be natural light wave length compared to the higher intensity of the new light. Will let you work safer at your machine which keeps your head from getting to close while running. Which I’ve had to do to see things in poorly lite areas.

At first the LEDs seemed to much, but I quickly got used to it. You might need to alter the white balance in the camera if it's not already set to automatic...

Part of that is camera adjusting the white balance. The brighter light is better. Maybe put a diffuser in front of the bulb.

LED. 5000 Kelvin is where the Daylight film was calibrated to give true color. You video may have white balance. BUT led the LED will give true color. florescence burn with green tint unless you get the Daylight ones. In the old day you added a Pink filter to your lens to counter balance the florescence green tint. Another great Job

Like the detail definition of the LED, but not the glare. Don't know much about photography, but perhaps there is a filter that will reduce the glare while keeping the definition?

Hi Mr. Pete. Just in case you were "testing" us ... You actually showed a slot drill and said that "an end mill" wont cut to centre. A slot drill is ground with offset cutting lands so that it will drill. Do I get extra points for spotting this ? Or am I being a smart arse and just adding to your dull cutter aggrivation ?

Ah yes. I remember those hot chips well. In my nose, in my mouth, my ears and down the shirt. We called it a fly cutter, I presume for that reason :)

Quite the enjoyable to watch project. On the jaws idea what about "stealing" the hardened jaws from a cheap low profile wobbly and thus useless drill press vise? I wouldn't give you a plugged nickel for those sort of vises but as a jaws donor for this project I think those bits of junk might just find a good purpose.

Being a retaired TV engineer, you have to go a long way to have too much lighting. Cameras can stop down its iris. Or you can add Neutral Density filters. Enjoy your videos!

I'm confused. If you have a mill, why make a lathe milling attachment? If you don't have a mill what use is instruction on making a mill attachment using a mill?
