Mrs. Kravitz was absolutely the funniest character on Bewitched - even funnier then the original Darrin. I know they brought in another actress after the original passed but those shoes were too big to fill. Funny but to this day whenever me , my wife or kids (who are in their 30’s and 40’s) start asking questions about someone the reply is “What are you Mrs. Kravitz”? Absolutely the living legend of a nosey busy body.

Both Alice Pearce and Marion Lorne (Aunt Clara) received Emmy Awards for "Bewitched" posthumously (1966 and 1968). And both were well deserved for their portrayals of 2 beloved characters! 👏👏👏 Rest in Peace, ladies. 💐 💐

What's funny is, Gladys Kravitz was watching 1164 Morning Glory Circle BEFORE Sam and Darrin moved in. So, no matter who moved in, she'd be snoopying. It's that Sam became the object of her spying, VERY interesting. Aww. Poor Mrs. Kravitz. Nobody believed her. Even Sam felt for her at times. 😀

The problem and the irony is: Gladys wasn't crazy! What she was seeing was true! They WERE witches and doing magic and yet no one believed her. There are parallels with modern day ufology where countless eyewitnesses claim to have seen a UFO or been abducted and no one believes them. Gladys Kravitz was the original "experiencer". Bewitched was on air at a time when ufology was in its prime. The Betty and Barney hill abduction had occurred in 1961, and paranormal phenomena was being discussed in the media. Objects and people popping in and out, levitation, anti-gravity, humans flying, time-travel, shape-shifting; all the grand themes of ufology were traversed in Bewitched. Even the concept of "alienism" or "otherness" was the main narrative arc of the show. The GK character is representative of where public opinion was at on "the phenomenon" as its now known. Poor Gladys, she will remain forever misunderstood screaming in mock-horror - on a loop - in the public mind.

I see she’s more preferable than the second one. I lovvvvved the recast more. Her reactions were the best. The first, was a little too animated and cartoonish, but I get why people loved her.

They were doing magic across the street and yet no one believed her. Gladys was actually the smartest person on the block in Bewitched. Yet no one appreciated her!

Very good actress. But I have to admit to being a Sandra Gould (the second GK) fan. Everybody knows Liz Montgomery was gorgeous but I thought Gladys (Sandra) was one sexy woman!
