One year ago I watched Steele's original "How to FPV" playlist. I got my radio and a simulator and practiced. Then I decided I REALLY wanted to get into FPV so I bought the rest of the gear required. Now I have two quads that I feel really good flying with. For anyone who wants to get into FPV, this is the best way to do it!

Jet Brooks The TinyHawk 2 (indoor) was my first, my trainer, for that it’s perfect. Throw it in acro and learn, I’ve crashed it full speed into fences, lawn, walls and trees. I’ve only broken one prop so far. They are indestructible. But if you fly everyday you will outgrow it fast. TinyHawk freestyle 2 just came out a bit ago. It’s a world of difference, actual throttle punch, performs more like how I picture a 5” inch would, but I’ve already ripped a prop. My 2 cents.

I've been flying for 3.5 years and don't own a single HD camera for any drones. Why? Because, being 63 years old, I looked at it a little more logically than most? Maybe! lol See, these prominent KZfaqrs make it seem co0ol to have HD video, BECAUSE THEY HAVE ESTABLISHED KZfaq CHANNELS! They post HD video because it gets them subscribers and makes them a little money...emphasis on little! lol We all look at the HD videos they post and think - WOW, I want to do HD videos too! But, most of us don't have successful KZfaq channels, and don't have the time or want to spend the YEARS it takes to make the paltry money KZfaq pays them! It ain't much! So, we buy HD cameras, make HD vidoes, and post them here. We get out 87 subscribers, or whatever tiny number we get before we get frustrated that it takes forever to get subscribers, and we stop posting HD videos! Then, we find that the HD videos we make are fine to watch back once, but after that they sit on our hard drives collecting virtual DUST! lol If you want to watch back your videos after you fly, you can easily do that with the FPV cameras we use to fly with. HD makes no difference, because theirs really no purpose for us NONE ESTABLISHED KZfaq channel FPV'ers, to make HD videos. They sit on the hard drive and never get watched because it's so much more fun to actually go out an fly again, instead of watching our old HD videos! Not even close! lol That's why I don't have a single HD camera for flying....Because IT'S MORE FUN TO FLY MORE...and for the money I'd spend on a GoPro, I can buy a couple of KILLER QUADS to, AGAIN, FLY MORE!!!! ;) Sorry, but I've been there and done the HD videos deal, now I am much more logical about it....and the value of my 400+ HD videos that sit on my hard drive - serve no purpose! Hope this helps you save money and buy more useful gear! :)

Scoot Roter Scoot Roter i feel like your comment is a bit misinformed. the point of HD footage is to capture a moment in time with greater depth and clarity, essentially creating art. in order to create art one must use a medium. to express certain things through video, whether it be an intense freestyle session, or a floaty playful flight, the pilot can use hd footage to better frame these things. it’s not all about “money and subscribers”. the fact that you’re so passionate about hating on those with established youtube channels is discrediting the work they had done to get to an established point. everyone started from somewhere. i hope this comment finds you well. just chiming in!

Curious, what’s your jump? I have the Taranis Qx7, not sure if I should spend the money to mod it with Crossfire, or scrap it. Pincher not a thumber, so I’m not sure I’m going Tango. Even though I think that’s what’s Stngersswarm used behind his back in the livestream awhile back!

Unpopular opinion here, you can get flying for half that, and if you want to advance, you can still resell your old stuff. To start you don't need crossfire, hal gimbals, or $100+ Frames. Remember the more expensive an item is to buy new, the more its value drops in the second-hand market. There are of course certain niches that are exceptions, but I don't think fpv is one. Oh, and don't forget the repair costs for the crashes!

I got caught up with work and quit using it for a while. Now I've got too much free time and decided to dig that controller out of my closet just to find that it quit working so I went searching youtube and found this video. I am just going to say, uncrashed fpv is the most helpful drone simulator ever. It is so amazing, and you can edit settings to match how you fly your real fpv drone. They also have different levels that add different scenery to fly in, as well as they have checkpoints that appear when you fly through the start checkpoint, which gives you the ability to test out your flying skills, and see if you can beat your record, or try and get either gold, silver or bronze. it is 20 bucks to get it, but hands down my most favorite simulator. I don't have an fpv drone yet, since i wanted to practice first on a simulator so i dont wreck a drone, and this program has helped me become such a better fpv drone pilot. I hope Mr Steele tries it sometime, or lets someone gift him the game to try it.

Nice one. I watched this even though fpv is my career. I use to play velocidrone and ive played all the others. Now a days I prefer drl because of the competition and the spec racing. Feels like my heavy 5 inch film rigs too. Ive seen velocidrone have crazy moon gravity too depending on the quad so thats in every sim depending on quad. They all had moon gravity at some point but not so much now a days. Anyways great video steele.

Learned a lot for sure, Thanks! Although I must say that it makes no sense without getting on the sim, I mean without having experienced on the sim a lot of things, when I watched it a few weeks ago, didn't make sense, now it is different.

Oh great! Now 1000 newbies will order their own Tango 2 and it will take TBS forever if I order mine now ;-). I can subscribe to everything you said, especially that FrSky has shown dubious business conduct lately. But I think Liftoff (with the Physics 4.0 update) matches the realism of Velocidrone and is just more fun to fly.

@@MrSteeleFPV I don't mind you making those statements, but I do hope you don't mind me providing a response in return. You told me personally on our Skypecalls that you enjoyed Liftoff, because more than just simulating we take care of gameplay too, something you mentioned was lacking in other FPV sims on the market. You mentioned we should do even more to cater to gamers because that's how we get to grow the FPV community. A big contrast from your "too gamey/serious dislike" response here. Furthermore you made a bunch of suggestions and feature request that the team at LuGus Studios work really hard on. After months of working on those things, we were proud to show you what we did, but you refused to try out our new versions unless we started adding even more (new) wishes. When I suggested you might already enjoy the new version, especially with your requested features and content in it, you simply responded with "lol", and that's it. I've been working on Liftoff for more than 5 years now, working with many organisations, companies, and pilots, I've never have anyone else treat us that way. I frankly don't understand why, or what made you feel we deserve that.In many other public autings about simulators, you mentioned your preferences are not a reflection of your links with TBS, and I'm confident it does not reflect our link with ImmersionRc and Rotor Riot... yet I would have a better understanding and appreciation of your attitude towards us if that was the case. I wish you felt better about Liftoff, and while Liftoff continues to do absolutely fantastic on all fronts, every pilot that dislikes Liftoff is a pilot we failed. And if those people allow us to understand why they feel that way, we consider that as good constructive feedback. I feel that, between you and I, I did what I could: we opened up our communication with you, we listened to what you said, we considered your feedback as much as any feedback we get from the community. We proudly presented our updates based on that feedback... and we got a "lol" in return. I'm likely very wrong, but this to me feels like some type of power fantasy, "let that studio in Belgium dance for me". Frankly I don't care what the exact reason is, I dont care if you like other sims more, I don't care how you feel about Liftoff, I don't even mind you speaking out about it in public. I do care for the conflicting message between what you told us and what you tell the public, I do care for the "lol" we got in return for listening to your feedback, and I greatly dislike this destructive approach rather than a constructive one (hell we even offered to pay you for your time spent on testing and giving us feedback). I don't expect you to agree, to change your mind, or think different about Liftoff, I just wanted to respond to a public conversation that involves 5 years of my life, and share you my honest view on your work too. Since this is your comment section, feel free to remove it if you must.

Wow, this was timely. I am new-ish to the hobby and started with the Tinyhawk 2 RTF (against your advice in your first video like this). It’s been a good first step for me. Now I’m ready to move up and I was again going to go against your advice (then) and get the Tango 2 and go full on Crossfire. This was encouraging to hear! I also wholeheartedly recommend a sim (I have Velosidrone, too). I wasn’t using it at first because of having the Tinyhawk RTF, but I was extremely frustrated and kept crashing. I finally came across a KZfaq video that showed how to use Beta Flight to use the Tinyhawk as the dongle so you can use the controller it came with for the sim. Game changer. After 4-5 hours on Velosidrone I was actually able to fly my drone! And bonus that you can plug right in with the Tango 2. I’m anxiously awaiting your follow ups to this! Thank you!

Fully agree with the transmitter stuff, I currently have an XLite Pro with a Crossfire Micro TX and while it's a very good transmitter I'm planning on switching to a TBS Tango2 Pro when they are back in stock - Mainly due to the fact that it folds up and that the Crossfire module won't be hanging off the back. For the simulator I like to use a few different simulators, even if you plan to do freestyle I'd strongly recommend doing some race practice once you get used to the controls as it teaches you throttle / height control. Love the tip about adding moving vehicles to Velocidrone, will definitely have to try that!

Hey Steele. Thanks for the updated video. Glad to see you’re rebooting this series. I really enjoyed the first one and it taught me a lot. I was wondering what you were talking about when you mentioned you don’t like the direction FrSky is going. Are they dropping OpenTX and/or Xfire support? If so, I haven’t heard anything about that...anywhere I can read up on it?

Hey Steele, I was wondering if you could maybe do a short vid on how to practice. Like once you have a sim or a drone and are comfortable flying, how would you systematically go about practicing to get better without developing bad habbits? I think a lot of us just go out there and go full yeet but perhaps there is a better way to develop good fundamentals. Thanks my dude!

I’ve been flying for a few years and the first thing I’d recommend for practice is go low and slow. I found my self flying really fast and ballsy in the sim but then being too scared to move around slowly with the real deal. Tearing around in the sim is fun but isn’t teaching you throttle management and control which imo is the hardest thing to master. Throttle control is the biggest thing you should be practicing. Do a punch out and as you’re falling back down, practice giving a quick blip of throttle to completely halt your motions. Do the same with split s style maneuvers. Just practice the repeatable half flips and low to the ground cruising because those will really teach you how your quad moves.
@skeyeball_fpv4258
@skeyeball_fpv4258 4 жыл бұрын
That makes sense, throttle management is definitely important. I like the practicing half flips idea too, that would help you get used to your rates. Also turning is something I still struggle with but doing figure 8s in parking lots around trees is helping slowly but surely.

@@TheStopmotionMovie Good Tips! Also, practice low to the ground so when you crash, and you will a TON, it's less chance to damage your quad when you are close to the ground! Practice flying in a figure 8! Over and over and over again! It will let you get down turning. Like Kyle said, practice it very slow at first, slowly gaining speed once you get it down. Don't get frustrated, it takes a long, long time to get really good! Practice makes perfect, so practice a TON in the simulator! ;)
