MRUV 160: Installing Traffic Lights in Lake City

I decided to add a set of traffic lights for the intersection in Lake City. I figured it would be fun to have them and watch as they sequenced through the light progression. The location is a bit too close to the aisle, so I added an piece of plexiglass to protect the signals.
I used traffic lights from a vendor on Ebay named Wehonest. This vendor actually has two sites, Wehonest_US and Wehonest_China. Similar products, but the items in the US store are shipped from the West Coast. The other China store ships from China. Not all items are available in both stores. I chose a set from the US site.
To control the lights I used a Traffic Light Controller from Galak Electronics. It is their item number VG-303 "Model Railroad Traffic Light Controller". It is available from both Ebay and Amazon (both Galak stores). Compact form factor and works well. I paid $19.99 for it when purchased in early December 2020.
I must admit I enjoy watching the lights, especially with the room lights off.

Rob, just pull the matainence truck up by the light and add a man on the cherry picker working on the light. Problem solved! glad to see they all work lol

Your layout is just amazing! I can't get enough of it 😉 I just finished building a tiny HO scale RC car which would do well on the roads you have across your layout.

If the one set of greens go out, just put a city maintenance truck next to one of the poles with old style cones around it. Oh, and a police officer in the middle of the intersection. Perfect!

for the first one. you could take more of the outer jacket off and then feed the wires down one by one.. but if I know you, you cut the wires and staggered those ones too. lol awesome , some day, when my layout has more than just track.. some day you should stop in and hang out, Wednesday night Live chat. 7 pm eastern. this week is a bit different. so don't think this one is the norm.

Absolutely YES. You MUST add a plexiglass shield (window) on the facia-edge near (around) that road-intersection.

Nice job Rob, the lights look great!! How about using a BB for the open spot on top of the light pole to fill the holes. Glue it into place then paint it gray to match the pole!!!

Hey I love the trafic lights. I have ordeted all my crossing signals from that same person. I cant wait until I get to that point on my layout, but right now I'm no where that close. Im working on the oil refinery area of my layout.

I can see a alittle mini scene by the red lights, a vouple of hot ods using the intersection as a make shift drag strip with a cop car waiting for them partly hidden behind the feed mill or the gas station.

Good work Rob 👍👍👍 3 thumbs up Rob using a green wire as a current conductor is a no no in the electrical word. Green is used for a grounding conductor in north america

Perhaps, but I don't need to follow the wiring codes and use green for +12V, red for +5V, White for +track feed, and black for grounds. I don't think an inspector will be here to complain.

Hello Rob. I’ve been an avid subscriber since day one on your construction. Absolutely awesome. Just want to say thanks for putting this segment on the traffic lights. I recently purchased 10 single head lights and I didn’t want to use the resistors that came with it. I looked at the halal system and found your video on hook ups. Did you use telephone wire? And would you think I would need at least 2 control boards for 10 single head lights lights?

Thank you for this . Have got a scenic master 4 way light with this controller, and wanting to install it, but have wondered about additional resisters. One question, what power source did you use??? I’m thinking of hooking up straight to the power pack...18.5 volts ac or the dc side, 15.5. Thank You again. Great video!

It's actually realistic cause in n. Y. Some don't have yellow red or green. One at of 20 streets in east new York is that. I think it's cool you can always put a traffic work truck with cones fixing it.. cool seen I got one

@@noneofyourbusinessshhh31 I found a really good on traffic lights deal on Ebay. I also learned that you can wire the traffic lights to a light hub from Amazon, I think it's scenic. It actually worked perfectly.

I bought 15 of the other ones that are on tpo and pole , real good 👍 way better then those other ones made in America that are too small... And $15. A pop.. these work way better and brighter oh cornerstone. Real garbage but the only ones out 8 years ago... Great choice. I bought a lot from we honest and now based in United States

I was quite disappointed with them when they arrived, same company, but mine did arrive from Hong Kong, or Guangdong...same thing. That may have had something to do with it, the electronics were fine but the masts and the light boxes were so unrealistic. Almost terrible. I feel like the only option is to remove the wires and lights and scratch build the rest...or just use for a different use.
