@@OCDHIFiGuybut are these magnets strong enough ? We used to have electromagnets. Maybe that's why Bybee, Stein, etc. have tweaks to improve signal-flow. Rick Shultz, no audio charlatan, said that playback is one big magnet. Problem was, it was a weak draw....hence his unique solutions..

I agree wholeheartedly that many of the "scientific" tweaks out there are repurposed from commercial industry (or pro audio), where they sell for orders of magnitude less. As a "budget" music lover, I've also found some great commercial/industrial sources for acoustic panels and bass traps at everyday-person prices. But I have a question (and maybe this is a separate video): What's your view of "audiophile" ethernet switches? I ask because I'm thinking about one, and it isn't cheap.

The open-minded we're trying them to see if they work. Mikey says (in other vids) that audio is rife w/ cheap parts. So it makes (some) sense to try an upgrade. If Wells used the Bullets, tweaks can't be a total joke. Audiogon users (many) reported positive gains from fuses in recent years. Look at the gauge diff. between a power cord & the typical fuse...it SHOULD matter. That said, they don't always work. The same goes for EMI 'traps'..w/ all that noise from power supplies, DACs, we should need help here. Personally, I found cleaning CDs w/ Essence & speaker platforms to have a BIG impact. Just not sure if they qualify as 'tweaks'.

I had never seen such products. People do not often seek expert advice and create their own 'wisdom' based upon their feelings and fools on internet. For audio gear, industry standard, safety regulations and inexperienced designers but aleaso a need for 'market fit pricing' and 'smalles size' leads to bad sounding gear. Like a DAC with a regulated PSU based upon series placed regulators like 5 volt after 12 volt, it's a cost effective solution but often doesn't sound well. If a cable is thick it often sounds worse, an uninsulated cable of thinnest size often sounds better. A fuse holder can damage sound, soldering a solid wire on ends of the fuse cost nothing and solves. And small speakers sound like small speakers, if you want the big sound, better buy big efficient speakers. But hey, I'm no expert.

For the price of a MiniDSP UMIK-1 (($79 I think) a boom mic stand and REW (free software) you can actually measure frequency and distortion to see if these tweaks actually do anything. The cost of a measurement setup is cheaper than I'd wager 99% of these tweaks out there. If you really want to tweak a pair of speakers, get into crossover design (simulation) based off real measurements.
@edmaster31476 ай бұрын
Be aware that you are not only not know what the reference of your measurement is, nor can you depend on reliability of outcome. Furthermore you use a very cheap D/A and A/D system. There is hardly any sense to this. In my experience all problems you try to solve are either enhanced or replaced / added by others. Digital sources are notorious for jitter and time-smear, resulting in all kind of isssues with sound. Replacing the source for a good one and a speaker system that is highly efficient and capable seems to solve very adequate. I use large horns on mids and highs with 18 inch woofers, which solved a lot of acoustic issues. But its fun fiddling around with DSP stuff, enjoy!
@davidteague38496 ай бұрын
@@edmaster3147 The reference is quite easy. One has a target in mind for what they want to achieve. Flat (accurate) response or tapered in room. Much can be done with measurements to see the room effects to then target specific problem areas. If you are familiar with acoustic measurements then none of this will be new to you, nor contentious. Digital domain artefacts (jitter) are solved these days by any competently designed DAC. They have little to do with in room frequency response imparted by a speaker and room acoustics. you're talking about different issues. The efficiency of a speaker system may or may not solve in room issues. Sure - if you have low powered amplification, a more efficient setup could be beneficial. I'm also using DSP both as EQ and an active crossover, but familiar with passive crossover design techniques too. Both are means to an end. DSP provides potential added flexibility and solves time alignment issues that can be difficult with passive crossover approaches without ladder delay networks, asymmetric acoustic slopes or stepped / slanted baffles.

Well, doesn't the nanoflo exotic nano particle gel require the monks of an entire Tibetan Monastery plus fifty Tuvan throat singers to sing and chant as one until an aperture is opened to an alternative universe and the gel acquires momentarily the consciousness of the entire universe which then imparts this knowledge to your audio components? Or maybe not. Remember Peter Belt? I think he is still around and his products are or were a lot less expensive. Good video.

The power supply is quite important to the sound, so is the fuse. If it matters a lot? A poor connection seems to (ask any car tech in the midwest) harm power and thus sound, a good contact seems benefitial. Just solder a thin solid bare wire on both ends of a standard fuse and solder the fuse neatly in and Bob's your uncle.

A simple test for your viewers. High end expensive speaker cable. Use a mono signal mono amp is simplest way. Into 2 speakers Play music with your standard cable. The sound will lock in the middle. Now replace one cable, only one. Relisten. If something has changed because of the new cable the difference between the 2 speakers will show up as a spread sound and no longer locked in middle.

@OCDHIFiGuy The test is just basic that can be tried without any equipment. If the difference is above the listeners hearing threshold ( not text book) which it must be to hear the improvement in cable they should detect. Could use a function generator to pinpoint where the difference is. Can also overlay scope patterns to see variations. Could also look for a difference signal , similar to David Haflers effect. If cable has no difference, will flat line if difference there will be a signal. I'm always looking for a way to improve my system.
