Reporting from Galveston Island, Texas! The storm came through Sunday night and Monday. Many on the Island still do not have power. Mine came on Monday afternoon, but my neighbors to the east still do not. The grid is really fascinating and strange. We were on the dirty side of Beryl and got about 7.5 inches of rain in a 24 hour period. The winds were fierce and at times the rain seemed to be coming sideways. Sunday evening at low tide the beaches had disappeared under water and the jetties were covered halfway in. Homes fronting water had about 8 inches of water covering the piers . A friend who lives on our man-made lake had 5 ft waves lapping at her back yard. We are on a heat alert…still…with heat index of 105. Add the humidity and you get unbearable. Our historic downtown and many other places were underwater. I am a BOI (Born On Island) and been through other hurricanes. This one seemed mild to me. All the Old Timers, of which I am one, have expected a hurricane this year. I hope it turns out that Beryl was that storm and we are done for the season. I would like to say that I depend on your channel and news. Thank you.

Up here in Houston and ain’t no way this was a cat 1 hurricane the level of destruction is equal to that of Harvey man, also ridiculous our grid cannot handle a cat 1 hurricane on our third day with no power

Have been experiencing a lot of Sahara dust since Monday in Blanchisseuse, it has the sky and ocean looking grey and drab, even though the sun is out and bright, no blues to be found.
