@spiderlok as for looking absurd, the HLV is one of the more realistic designs of the on year war, its simply a vehicle designed for reentry into the earths atmosphere, based off the early designs of reentry capsules in the early 60s leading up to apallo, and even simmilar to the ones used in ICBMs today ...if you want absurd look at the dopp

it sucks that we never got a second season of Gravity Front. Originall MS Igloo had the first season and then MS IGLOO Apocalypses 0079 second season. I really wanted to see MS IGLOO version of the Battle of Solomon, was hoping that would show up in Gravity Front 2

I have to save for completing my Gundam collection, it is an awesome series for sure. The later ones with alternative scenarios get boring, but are pretty cool still.

@Rotard12a There's also the problem of how much you can fit in one scene, Minosky jamming reduced engagement range to visual range but with 18m tall robot it don't leave much room to show object of very different scale at very different distance. MS IGLOO actually did a excellent job, remember that non-CG animation usually cheat with proportion while CG can't.

this scene actually shows why tanks and turrets are such a geat idea: becasue you can fire even when retreating. but MS are lmited by their torso.

@JimexJimex all depends where it hits, a single round to the battery, magazine, engines or ractor will send the thing down in a firery blaze. also, just watching MS IGLOO yesterday, most ships did not go down in one hit, but it was clearly stated in the original series that a megellan class's main guns will most likely destroy a musai in one round

@princeroy The creators explained that Mobile Suits have legs so that they can utilize the AMBAC system. AMBAC is using appendages to shit your center of gravity in order to turn in a Zero-G environment, just like real astronauts do. Where space fighters had to use thrusters to turn the MS only need to move their arms and legs. They had actual feet so that they could transition to colony fighting if need be.

@GreatWagersOfAnime From an artistic point of view, I think the animators are making the HLV's movements to imitate that of a UFO's. This invokes the feeling of an alien invasion, but ironically the aliens being spacenoids, one of our kind. This reflects how different and the same that Earth people and spacenoids are at the same time. Though in technical terms, these things look absurd in the UC universe.

@JimexJimex One of the central points of the Universal Century storylines is that there is no armor that will protect a vehicle from a mega-particle beam weapon. (You need an I-field or anti-beam coating for that.) So yes, a single shot from a beam weapon in the wrong place, and it's game over, even for a cruiser.

At 2:19 - 2:22 reminds me of the scene in MS 08th team opening with the Federation troops and the Type 61s rolling in, except this time it's Zeon.

The zeon forces were meant to invoke a lot of nazi imagery, but their story reminds me a lot of Japan during WW2. An aggressive, expansionist nation develops advance, high performance combat machines to counteract having far less resources than their opponents, seeking to feed their conquest through conquests. Just give the zakus heat katanas and big red dots instead of the Zeonic crest.

@QuantaFreak137 Well The Principality of Zeon was originally based off of the Axis powers and the battles modeled after WW II counterparts.

@wikikomoto That is the short version haha. Operation British was to drop a colony on Jaburo in South America. In near earth orbit Federation forces were able to break up the colony, but it was to close to earth to stop completely. As such, the largest chunk hit Sydney.

@wikikomoto I was refering to the IGLOO HLVs and their movement. I didn't make it clear with the last sentence though. They are essential reusable rockets, and that's realistic, but moving like a flying saucer just makes anyone scratch their head.

no gundam pilot is using magic.. but in gundam seed, the gundam pilot are mostly coordinator (advanced human being, genetically modified human) .. they have special power called the SEED mode, when it is activated the pilot will gain ultra high reflex just like superhero! In gundam 00, some of the gundam meister are innovator (they has special power too, Tieria is a cyborg like guy who can access the data from Veda, and many more) I hope this is helping you

Check out the HLV that decelerate using parachutes after 0:46. Those might carry the personnels and the immediately deployed forces. You've GOT to make up your own explanation for sci-fi shows to get the most enjoyment out of it. Agree? =]

Keep in mind that gravity, in the sense we are referring to it, is a force. Inertia is a property of mass, and the absence of gravity does not make an object's inertia easier to overcome. I don't want to stat drawing force diagrams, so please take my word for it :)

Coming back to this after seeing it when it first aired. This shows CGI is so dated now. I remember really liking it and thinking how great it looked.

@wikikomoto UC is nice cause the Gundams tend not to be god-like. Sure, they are strong and elite in nature of design but with the right pilot and tactics can be over come even by the grunts if there isn't a great pilot using the Gundam. At times even that doesn't help but that's what makes it more realistic and exciting.

@TekkaSage Don't forget that Char also toyed with the Gundam in the first episodes if I'm not misstaking.

@Rotard12a i agree with all of that except for the samalis and wappa. one, samalis is actually being displayed realstically for the first time in MS IGLOO, in space there is no gravity, thus the thrust alone makes the ship able to move similarly to a tank on earth, not a battleship. 2, the wappa. with that much downward thrust the thing is flying on a bed of air, it would make sense that its moving like that. but yeah, the HLV being like a UFO is just stupid and really sticks out.

@redDL89 well to ship buffalo wings from earth would definitely be insane...from agricultural colonies would probably be mighty expensive (and most of their production are being used to feed the populated colonies)...so i'm sure there are agricultural sectors/levels on Von Braun (if i recall correctly in gundam 0083 viewers get to see that VB is divided into many levels) that makes meat and veggies and other products cheap enough for ordinary Moonarians

Though Zeon has some parallels to Soviet Russia, such as Girhen purging 200,000 anti-Deikun opponents and later killing pro-Deikun opponents to stay in power, the same way Stalin killed many pro-Trotsky opponents to retain power or how Degwin Zabi named himself heir on Zeon Deikun's deathbed as Stalin did on Lenin's deathbed.

@Rotard12a For most of those problem I would say "lack of time" example with spaceships : If you don't want them to look immobile and keep the dynamic introduction short you need to exaggerate their speeds. For the Dropship : Alway excused this as "secret test of Minovsky craft" Zaku Dodging : It's coherent. If they couldn't pull out move like that they wouldn't be able to jump or even run. We always downplay the pilot's G anyway. Wappa is realist, see Wikikomoto's comment.
