Is MSC comparable to Royal Caribbean? - This is an honest cruise review aboard the MSC Meraviglia from a non professional cruiser or a vacation planner. I'm glad your cruise took a turn for the better. We are platinum on Carnival and have sailed on RC and Disney. We tried MSC in April and did a 2 week back to back on the MSC Seascape out of Miami. We LOVED it!!!! The food was good, the service fantastic, and the entertainment was good. Embarkation and Debarkation was a breeze...best we have ever had. We were told to make reservations for shows and forgot to do that. We still were able to get into the shows no problem. We do plan to do MSC again soon. I do think there is some room for improvement, but it's that way for all cruise lines. My favorite thing about our MSC cruise was the private island and being able to relax. We were at full capacity, but we still were able to find places to relax.

@@daP.A we were at full capacity. I think the difference is… It was after spring break, but before school was out for summer. We timed just right, and it was a much more laid-back group.

@@tappingflamingo msc is great but in my opinion they need to catch up to royal and carnival. The muster station protocol was a disaster and the seafood was terrible although the service was great but yes improvement needed although the best bang for the buck is at MSC.

@@daP.A that’s interesting… Our muster drill was fantastic. We’re looking into booking our next MSC cruise for next year. It will be on a different ship and different port. It will be interesting to see if our experience is as good as the Seascape.

I only went to buffet twice had a great plate full of shrimp and a piece of fish They have salmon every night on MDr Three shows a night A party almost every night Two shows at 4 pm

I've done Meraviglia twice, once from Miami and then Cape Canaveral. TOTALLY different vibe on each! Miami was very international. Every announcement was in 6 languages. Not so in Orlando. I found the food ok, but I'm not too picky. Shows are ok too. One was really good, one was like a high school musical. I took the cruises to relax and that's what I did. Thank you for the tips on Aurea. I didn't know. Got yourself a follower.

Hey Geno, It's a Italian Cruise Line not a seafood cruise line. You want low prices but wanna eat lobster and scallops every meal. You whined about the bed, the crowds the shows. Stay on Carnival next time and put up with everyone drunk and kids running around unsupervised at all hours of the day and night.

Thanks for the honest review. Were going on the Meraviglia in a few weeks...and I've heard boarding was an adventure. We've been on over 10 Royal cruises so were tempering our expectations. We're booked in an Aurea room and I was curious if you got priority boarding and if so what time did you arrive at the port. Trying to figure out if its better to arrive early or just arrive late and wait for the rush to be over.

Yes you have priority boarding but you have to wait in line away half way through. The boarding is chaotic, if was for us since the boat was at capacity and everyone shows up eat. It's a long boarding process and not pleasant, especially if you are used to Royal.

Thanks for the quick response. Any idea if that was for check-in or security? My biggest concern is there are 14 of us and we are traveling with my parents and mother in law... all have mobility issues and are booked in accessible cabins. Hopefully they don't have to wait in line. Thanks again for the info @@daP.A

Rule of thumb on MSC - avoid seafood everywhere and avoid salad in MDR. Beef dishes are the best.

Does Aurora comes with a restaurant ?

Not a specialty one. Gives you a discount only. All other restaurants are included.

Most sea food cannot be frozen, IMO they don't want illness outbreaks. Also, isn't it an Italian line? We're not big on seafood. Don't expect good seafood in a steak house.

Yes but RCL and Carnival still serve pretty good seafood dishes. RCL even has Hooked specialty seafood dining with live lobster. Carnival has the absolute best fried alligator bites ever

Definitely the food was not up to par compared to ncl.. I did like the lobster tail the steak the eggplant parm and soups... some dishes werent that great overall I enjoyed very much especially the multiple hot tubs

My kids did get a steak what was not good, although it was immediately replaces upon request. Overall the steaks were decent.

I expected better but as mentioned I would do it again. The savior was the Aurora pkg. But your right it's a bargain cruise and although I expected more, especially from the food, I would do it again. It's just not Royal or Carnival but it is cheaper.

The food can is ok. The value is there but you get what you pay for. If they could somehow get better quality food at the same price point they would be dominating the industry. Thanks for commenting.

Msc doesn’t even compare to the staten island ferry. Im on the Meriviglia now and its horrendous. One and done. Food is horrible. Pizza is great. Get the drink package and you’ll know why after you try to get coffee at the coffee spots. Thank me later. Wait staff in main dining room hand you your plates at the table. Should be setting it down for everyone. They leave the tables filthy for dessert. Never again and still 6 days to go

Nah the buffet food is much better than main dining. I’ve been on 8+ different Royal Caribbean cruises and 5 NCL cruises, The food on MSC is actually good and has FLAVOR. Idk why the Royal caribbeans food tastes bland, it’s like they’re allergic to flavor and seasoning. NLC is nothing memorable. But there is so much different food and flavor in their buffet. Their coffee from the coffee spots are actually good compared to ROYAL and NCL . Bro am I in the twilight zone, or do people only eat boiled potatoes ??? Bruh what… based on the waitstaff comment, just sounds like a Karen is you ask me. these guys work 12hours + shifts and 7 days a week. LIKE whatttt ?? Stop being so entitled over the littlest inconvenience. SMH

If you want peace and quiet Royal Caribbean anthem of the seas is the cruise for you. There are more old people on anthem but it is more peace and quiet for sure! 😊 MSC does seem like it’s geared for younger crowd!
