I like my pizza to have a crisp crust and I just didn't care for the undercooked, low flavor that this ship served. A few ladies at my MDR table mentioned the same thing at dinner. I agree that the pizza is just ok. Personally, I think the pizza on Carnival is way better.

If you were in Yacht Club you were on a completely different ship than the rest of the passengers. I spoke to a Yacht Club guest on this sailing and they thought the service and the food was excellent. They only ate at the buffet once. All of my dinner table mates had the same impression of the main dining room, service, buffet and the pizza. We all agreed that you get what you pay for. This was a very inexpensive cruise. If you are in the Yacht Club again in November, I am sure you will have a much different experience than we did. If not, go for the specialty dining package! Thanks so much for sharing!

I would agree with you on the tempting price and the inconsistency. I sailed the Meraviglia twice before and the first was a disaster and the 2nd was actually really good. Of course you saw the review of this last one. Royal is a safe bet but the buffet can be disappointing as well. If you are going to CoCo Cay, I enjoy that more than Ocean Cay by MSC. I also never met my stateroom attendant and the ones that I saw in the hallway just smiled and said yes. I completely agree that MSC is a very good value for $$$ if you set your expectations appropriately.

I think that MSC is learning about the American market still. The ice cream factor and the availability of complimentary dining around the pool is something that needs to be added as well - even with that deck 16 small buffet. I agree that it is a great price for a mass market cruise line and that there is a substantial customer base who fit into this type of cruise. I'm glad that the MDR was a good experience for you. That is a difficult question..... I will be on the HAL Rotterdam in Dec just before Christmas and will have a full review and other videos posted soon after. That in itself might be your answer however there are things to consider regarding Holland America Line. Though this is their newest ship and most advanced, the demographic and type of cruise is going to be VERY different from NCL and MSC. HAL is a premium cruise line with better food and services however the average age is going to be ..... old. There will be no water slides, pool parties, deck parties etc. HAL is a more "traditional" experience where NCL is going to be catering more to the mass market "resort" experience. NCL is going to be more active with much bigger ships. Depending on the length of the cruise, itinerary and time of year can sway one way or the other. If you are going to Alaska, then GO HAL. We did HAL for the Panama Canal and love the itinerary but were disappointed in the ship (Eurodam). If you are going to warm weather and don't mind kids, then NCL might be better on the budget and give you more to do. I wouldn't suggest MSC but their price always keeps them as a contender. If you do go NCL, get a specialty dining package since the dining room will be hit and miss. Have you considered Celebrity? Check out my Celebrity videos if that is an option for you. I never like to give a bad review for this exact situation. I can provide some advice and if your budget can absorb it. I would go with the specialty dining package and limit the main dining room. If you have a meal that you are not satisfied with in the MDR, ask your server to replace it immediately. They will accommodate you. I did not do this and should have. The buffet has lots of fresh fruits, breads, cold cuts and cheeses as well as fresh salad stations. Go with a freshly made lettuce salad since the potato salad and others are pretty bland. The small buffet on deck 16 has nacho station that is good. Make sure you do not get a hamburger from the to go section which they place in an open top cardboard box - they are old. I would stick to that and you will enjoy the food more. I would also wait in the line at breakfast at the egg and omelet station so that you know you will have a hot, freshly made breakfast. If you are traveling to Nassau, I would recommend an excursion and not staying at the port or downtown. I have done Blue Lagoon several times and I enjoy the ride over and the island itself. They have a great VIP - Adults only option. Lean from my mistakes on this sailing and have a great cruise!

I am very glad that you enjoyed the review. I actually attempted to film more of the buffet 3 times. The biggest issue was that it was extremely crowded. The set up of the food stations are all along a long wall with separators between the stations holding the plates and silverware. Each station normally has a line associated with it and in order to see what is available you will have to walk both sides (front and back too) to check out the offering. Both long walls are typically the same on each side. There are large bread and fresh fruit areas duplicated on each side. There are ethnic areas for Mexican and Chinese. The deli sections are small with limited meats and normally only a few cheeses. There are pre-made sandwiches but they have small amounts of meats and are not dressed. I took meat and a roll along with items from the salad bar areas to make my own sandwich. That was the best lunch I had. I think that I mentioned that the hamburgers and hotdogs are pre-made and they dress the sandwiches before placing them out on platters. If you want anything else on your burger, then go to the salad bar sections. Try to grab burgers that have just been put out (not in the take away area where they are placed in individual cardboard containers) since the buns will be dried out and stale with your burger probably being cold. The burgers on the private island buffet were much better. The hot dogs also come in a chili dog style but I did not try those. You will find mayonnaise, mustard and catsup at the back corner of each side of the buffet. I did not like the pizza on the ship since I felt the crust was not cooked through for a thin crust. Others confirmed my opinion but some thought it was very good. I did not try the french fries but I was told they were normally cold. The dessert section was very small and had limited selection. The smaller buffet on deck 16 seemed to have cookies and some additional desserts in the afternoons. I hope that helps!! My biggest recommendation is walk around the buffet a couple of times and lean in to read the small placards describing the item before you get in one of the lines. Remember that each side will duplicate stations so head to the back and check each section there. It will be less crowded.
