An oft asked question over the past couple of decades! I think everyone's answer will be different but for myself, the initial rush of flying under harbour bridges or into buildings wore off decades back (FS4, maybe?). So unless there's an instructive purpose to the crash process, I can't think of any need for it. In fact, it was with the coming of MSFS2020 that I pretty much devoted myself to flying as well as possible, within the actual constraints of the software itself. Wing42's Bleriot remains a point in case, given the treacherous stress limits on the plane and the lack of telltales as to when those limits were being reached - even with the juddering introduced by FSRealistic Pro. I think I fail as much as succeed but practice makes perfect, I guess.

@@flyingliar938 I hear what you're saying. My point wasn't just the visual effects but the physics of realism. Example, when my nephew plays Forza and hits a rock or a tree driving at 100mph the car just magically bounces back into the road, less consequences. When I fly in MSFS & I overstress airplane in flight my screen fades to black & I restart flight. In real life we would see plane violently shuddering, maybe see a tail or a wing snap off etc. Other flights I noticed screen would simply fade to black even with minor things like left side window open during take off or exceeded flap or gear speeds extensions. In real life a pilot can continue to fly but might have issue with belly landings or such. This always easy fade to black "isn't realistic" in a real flight simulation like MSFS which isn't intended to be a "game". If I hit a wing tip against another plane on taxi show structural damage or scratches as consequences like in real world. That's all I meant

All valid points. Did it all start with FSX, do you know? I recall we were all led to believe it was precipitated by 9/11 but it's so far back, I'm not sure if there's any truth in that notion, any more. And yes, you're completely right about the whole 'reset/reload' for even the smallest infraction being annoying. My suspicion is this will continue with 2024, as well but I suppose that remains to be seen.
