Pancho and Lefty by Townes Van Dantz is just one that comes to mind. Strangley no Carter family or Jimmie Rodgers song on your list. And you appear to be restricting it to one song per artist. Which would mean, there are at least 29 better songs in Country Music than Hank Williams second best song! But, I still loved the video 😁

Where were you when the world stop turning isn’t even close to Alan Jackson’s best song. I get it. They want to use one that dealt with 9/11, but I feel like Courtesy of the Red White and Blue did a way better job at that. There are plenty of other way more iconic Alan Jackson songs they could’ve used. Personally, I would’ve used It’s 5 o Clock Somewhere. Goodbye Earl doesn’t deserve to be anywhere close to the top 30 of all time Catchy song, but come on now. Let’s be serious. Then again I can’t think of anything else of theirs to put in this list 🤷‍♂️ There are a few on this list that I’ve legit never heard of. Mostly as you get closer to number 30. Of course I’ve heard Chris Stapleton, and I’m not saying he don’t belong in here. I’d honestly put him a little higher on the list tbh.

Trying to make a list of greatest songs is impossible because not only is it very subjective, but you also have 80 years worth of source material. I think you hit the artists that must be included and their most iconic songs, but not necessarily their best. I would have put Bob Wills in and taken Country Roads out. John Denver crossed over into country, but he was a folk singer. My self-indulgent choice would be “You never even called me by my name” by Davis Alsn Coe. It is indeed the perfect country music song. 😉

I'm surprised no one's mentioned Merle Haggard's Okie from Muskogee or John Anderson's Swingin'. I was also thinking of a list of best country songs by women. Some thoughts: Kitty Wells Honky Tonk Angel Patsy Cline Crazy Anything by Loretta or Dolly. Really. They both beautifully evoked the inner lives of regular people in their songs. If pressed to pick one for each, it's Coal Miner's Daughter and Jolene (or Coat of Many Colors), respectively. Carter Family (well, mostly female) - Will the Circle Be Unbroken Tammy Wynette Stand By Your Man Lynn Anderson - Rose Garden Bobbie Gentry - Ode to Billie Joe Dottie West - Country Sunshine Tanya Tucker - Delta Dawn Barbara Mandrell - Sleeping Single in a Double Bed Juice Newton - The Sweetest Thing (I've Ever Known) Deborah Allen - Baby I Lied Roseanne Cash - Seven Year Ache Patty Loveless Timber I'm Falling in Love The Judds - Grandpa Wynonna Judd - Tell Me Why. Hard to pick just one, she's got so many great songs. Pam Tillis - Maybe It Was Memphis Reba McEntire - Fancy Martina McBride - Independence Day Trisha Yearwood - She's In Love with the Boy Faith Hill - Wild One (I actually prefer It's Your Love, but that's a duet with Tim) Jo Dee Messina - Heads Carolina, Tails California Shania Twain - Any Man of Mine Lee Ann Womack - I Hope You Dance Sara Evans Born to Fly Dixie Chicks (now just "The Chicks) Wide Open Spaces; close second Cowboy Take Me Away I stopped listening to country music after the whole Toby Keith/Dixie Chicks feud and can't say much about recent acts, so don't get on me about leaving out Taylor Swift.

Of course given the large body of Country Music, you can't include everything in just 30 choices. I don't object to any you have listed, but I could think of some songs and artists that couldn't make your list. A shout out to Marty Robbins when it was Country AND Western Music.
