Devi is so cringey . But I love her . Maitretryi plays her perfectly. And I love that she makes mistakes cause it makes her relatable. I see myself in her. And I think her cringey moment is Ben and Paxton finding out that she’s dating them both, annesa apology , and the scene where she almost had sex with Paxton in season 1

Honestly the only time she was really cringey for me was when she was mean or aggressive toward her own family. Especially in an ethnic/non-White family, I would've expected her to get way more severe punishment. In a Mexican household, she would've gotten her ass handed to her tbh. Also when she was mean to her friends! Just not cool

love, love, love this show!!! Her anger is really cringy for me...i think one episode she called her mom a bitch..my jaw dropped - I COULD NEVER GET AWAY WITH THAT! My mom, would have me on the floor!! I had this assumption Indian culture have such high respect for their parents.

Well that assumption is true. And it's not just true for Indian but entire Asian culture. China, Japan,Korean or Middle East. It's kind of same. NRIs though are pretty different compared to Indians living in India. Saying that I have NRI friends and they are no where like this. Atleast they can't talk such words on face of their parents. This show has more of what an American or West thinks how a NRI maybe living.

I’m sorry but Mindy totally white washed this show! Seriously there is nothing “Indian” about it besides her grandma who plays the true role of a typical Indian grandma would. I guess it makes sense since Mindy herself is whitewashed!

That’s the point, the story is about an Indian girl who grew up in America. A place that forces POC to “be more white” in order to “fit in.” The story is also based upon Mindy’s personal experiences. Mindy says “I grew up Indian and Hindu in a predominantly white community, and I did not feel comfortable with my Hinduism,” which shows that because she grew up around white people, she felt as though she had to be more like them.

@@wendiwasden7088 no, I was hoping the show would show more Asian representation by having their characters embracing their Asian backgrounds instead of being embarrassed by it/judging other Asians because they aren’t “whitewashed” like them. Unfortunately this is the true reality most of us Asians face when going to school, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been judged & bullied by other Indian girls just because I would wear my Indian earrings to school and would be excited when there was an Indian event going on in town, this is why so many young girls and boys are embarrassed to embrace their culture and religion. Hopefully in the future there is an Asian artist who comes out with a Netflix show that represents those of us Asians who love our religion & culture and actually enjoy educating others who want to learn more about it.
