I was a judge in my district court for twelve years, and yes, you're correct. The best thing for a witness, and a defendant, is to be honest. If not, an experienced judge, or juror, will spot dishonesty and a lie immidiately. It' no use trying.

@@user-nu7kk4uw6k People, in tests, are not quite as good as you think at spotting liars just from demeanour. But I agree people should always tell the truth. First and foremost because it's the right thing to do, naturally, but if that doesn't convince them, because lying is not as easy as people think- just one lie brought out in x examination and the jury will start to think everything you say may be a lie. And you could, and IMO should, be done for perjury. In the UK we take perjury more seriously. Here, you can find yourself in jail for years for it- up to a maximum of 7 years (and/or a fine). (Though we don't prosecute people often enough for it IMO.)

I’m old, I have allergies. Recently, when giving a deposition my eyes hurt and I had trouble focusing. I often closed my eyes while thinking and trying to remain composed. Trump is falling asleep because he stays up all night taking stimulants,and then in the morning, maybe one of his aides hands him a half a Xanax to keep him calm in court.

Lawrence O’Donnell has such insight into human nature. I was an English teacher and greatly admire Mr. O’Donnell’s descriptive abilities. He tells us what’s happening but even more than that, he looks into a person’s nature and draws out for us the little things that reveal a person’s purposes. And it all comes alive for us. If I, long retired, were still teaching, I would have my students watch these episodes, not as political arguments but as masterpieces of reflections on human nature. Beautiful work. Excellent.⭐️

Shades of past memories. I was a trial lawyer for over 35 years and I remember "witness prep". Always tell the witness to "look at me" when I ask you questions, but then "turn and answer to the jury". It always worked for me as a trial lawyer.

I do agree with @ThatLife4U somewhat. Michael Cohen's worship of Trump wasn't purely selfless. Cohen hoped Trump would appoint him to a very high position in the Trump Administration if he were elected. Cohen did not make amends for wrongs that brought him to Trump's attention.

Those of us who follow Meidas Touch Network have known this Michael Cohen for a few years. He's an excellent reporter, interviewer, and host of his own program. He's honest and forthcoming and fun to watch.

I still wouldn't trust him to run a toffee stall, though, and he can still be nasty if cornered. I see him as someone who had paid a price for his actions and wants his co-conspiritor(s) to pay a price too, which seems fair enough to me. But I don't go overboard on his virtues as I'm not convinced by them.
