We done and convincing video. I find for my use a carbonated drink bottle is safe for alcohol carry and pours precisely. The Trangia fuel bottle and valve is vastly superior but unnecessarily heavy. Still, your point of putting together a complete kit with fuel in a useable and safe configuration is very helpful.

We are on the same page. The only reason I would pick a trangia or other fuel stoves is the Noice from the gas stoves. Some are more quiet than others. But the control you get with a gas stove is awesome.

Nice Maff, MSR make great kit. I've had a couple of their stoves over the years and love them. You should do a boil-off to see which of your stoves can boil 1l the quickest.

Another good and informative video Maffew...One point I'd like to bring up about those pocket rocket starters is that piezo electrics have a tendency to fail when you most need them, so...I know that you always carry a redundancy BIC or Clipper with old reliable flint and wheel...It worked for our ancestors and is more reliable to get that spark that ignites the gas in case of starter failure....Oh and have you lost weight? Are we seeing the streamlined and more aero-dynamic Matt here? As usual ... All the best mate !

Nice cook kits. That MSR kit also gives you the plastic bowl on the pot. Thanks to a CPAP machine I just do day hikes or car/base camps now, so cook kit weight isn’t much of an issue. I normally use my Trangia with a FireBox Nano stove or my DIY alcohol 🍺 cat stove. Also have MSR pocket rocket, whisperlight & DragonFly all of which are great stoves. But the one I’ve been playing with lately is my Heavyweight SVEA 123R kit, not sure what my “ Kit “ weighs in at but now I want to throw it on a scale.

I agree, using an alcohol burner in a tent is definitely a bad idea and gas is the way to go. Although if we assume the alcohol weighs the same as water (I think it's actually lighter but.....), you'll be losing 100g per day of use. So from day 2 you are already much lighter. With the gas setup you'll be losing 35g ish per day. Gas also has the advantage of being way faster and I'm sure that'll be important after a long day hiking. You could save an awful lot of weight by taking that teeny tiny micro tent that you almost didn't fit in 😁😉

There are simple plastic bottles that weigh a lot less and can easily carry alcohol. I always used them and never had any issues.

Hi Matt. Loved your new vlog. Very interesting. What liquid fuel do you use in your trangia. I have used the Coleman liquid fuel but it makes all my pans black lol

Hiya, thanks for the vid! The box says it can fit the 8oz canister in the pot along with the stove and handle, but I've read online from some users that make everything fit you need to use the 4oz canister. What's your experience? Thanks :)
