First impressions of this giant shelter. Lots of potential uses: family/car camping, cook outs, BBQs, the list goes on and on.
I always bring a tarp to cover my cooking area when I go camping with my kids. This is an interesting product since it comes with everything you need to use the tarp right out of the bag - no knots to tie, no cordage to prepare.

I believe your tarp is based on the old Moss Outfitter Wing. MSR bought Moss tents after Bill Moss died. I have a 15yr old MSR Parawing 19 based on the old Moss Parawing 19. It is slightly smaller at 180sq ft vs 200sq ft and it has two 8' 25mm aluminum poles. It is made of very heavy duty 210D Nylon with the same corner pockets.

Ya for sure! Almost obscene but it makes a big difference if you get several days of rain.

I have this 120 wing, the smaller size. I tried this 2 weeks in Switzerland . Really perfect also for heavy rain the strong wind. ❤❤ top

I have a Mtn Hardwear Stingray 11.5 with that catenary cut. I've set it up, but yet to use. What a beast that MSR tarp!!

Question #1 est le vent…

Excellent review. Hope to hear about some weather usage later on. Will be interested in knowing how the wind affects it.

Wind is the big question mark, but I’m sure it will perform better than an equivalent rectangle.

Enormous! I wonder if the "back" is really the front intended to not have a guyline entangling the entryway?
@KaneDoesOutdoors

I don’t think it really matters what is the “front” or “back” so long as you’re happy with the setup. I’ve had the 8’ MSR extendable poles for years and used those for the first pitch with the main “front” peak way up high. I was able to walk under the whole thing and cook comfortably.

Looks really nice but my concern is its height/ceiling inside. Not sure how tall you are but it looked to go towards less than 5 ft in most places.

I’m 6’3 so for most people it plenty high. I’ve taken it out on two very rainy trips since that video and honestly I won’t go car camping without it now. I've got the setup dialled in now to be very quick. Huge living space. There is a picture posted in my community tab from the end of August.

Haven't had it out in any crazy with but seems solid - much more so than a flat tarp.

Do you think that a ground quilt is actually lighter than a sleeping bag if you account for the added insulation to make up for drafts? In other words given the same comfort level would it actually be lighter? And I know about and would use pad straps.

I use a quilt in the summer when temperatures can drop to freezing in the mountains but are rare. This is with the understanding that a -6C rated quilt can handle just below freezing. If I’m *expecting* temperatures below freezing I use a sleeping bag. Even with straps movement causes drafts. I’m not a cold sleeper, but from experience having a fully enclosed bag is warmer when the temperatures drop significantly.
