I'd rather not think that about Bert I., because that would lead to the conclusion that _Beginning of the End_ (aka Peter Graves vs. Giant Locusts) was _also_ a fetish film and it's probably not healthy to scrub out my eyes that much.

I was watching this episode during it's initial airing with some serious Zappa fans. We were laughing at the Frank song until the Zappa still frame appeared. When we realized the purpose of the song the laughter stopped and it got real quiet. There wasn't a dry eye in the room.

The GoGo dancer in Red is Toni Basil. She sang Mickey in 1982. And was a dancer with Fred Rerun Berry dance crew.

I love that the giant's "power" amounts to kidnapping and holding a hostage, which they could have done at any time regardless of size. It's like if someone made a deal with Satan to gain the power to eat a sandwich.

Actually, for there to be enough to go around, it's probably the /drugs/ that would have to be stepped on ... but yeah, Mr Critical Care is gonna get stomped pretty flat. (Idea: hide a bunch of glass bottles filled with something nasty, or railroad spikes similarly contaminated under your coat first, maybe enjoy some satisfaction/revenge, if posthumously, upon bare feet!)

15:31 And the gigantic angry house cat walks out to parts unknown never to be seen again. And no one seems concerned in the slightest that a massive house cat as big as a horse is on the loose in the neighborhood and never refereed to ever again in the movie. Can we say.. plot hole? At least they shrunk down those over grown humans. A shame they will all be picked off by the hungry cat monster that is still looming in the neighborhood. Oh well.

@@SpamEggSausage Yeah, then she reappears right before they shrink at the end. She is visible in the widescreen version when they initially walk up to confront the "good teens." From what I heard, she was either fired or quit halfway through production.

So as the story goes, Frank Zappa was a huge fan of the show and for years the Brains and Zappa were trying to figure out some way to have him on the show but could never come up with a decent skit to include him in, or his schedule just never lined up properly.

Before Hobgoblins came along and dethroned it this movie managed to hold onto my coveted "Most Loathsome and Annoying Cast of Characters" award for four seasons, longer than any other episode.

I have a shameful confession to make - I actually don't mind Hobgoblins so much because it is the ultimate, tongue-in-cheek, B-movie schlock (and I weirdly enjoy those types of films) so it gets a pass from me. Village Of Giants, on the other hand, I have absolutely no f@&king idea 🤷‍♀️

Mine is "The Leech Woman". You don't have to have redeemable characters in a movie for it to be good... just ask Tarantino. But if everything else in the movie is bland that's unforgivable.

Ironically, the movie was based on the very H.G. Wells story that Bert I. Gordon will make into the movie Food Of The Gods 10 years later. RIP Bert Ira Gordon (1922-2023). 😞

36:43 I don't know if it counts as a reference, per se, but when Mike responds "So we've heard." in response to Tommy Kirk's line "I like the pool better.", I'm pretty sure he's referring to the fact that Tommy Kirk met the 15-year old boy he started seeing at the age of 22 (causing him to get fired from Disney) at a pool.

I know you're just joking but A) Wil Wheaton and Tommy Kirk are NOT related; they just sort of look like uncle and nephew; B) Tommy Kirk NEVER had the reputation of being a weenie OR playing weenies like Wil Wheation; and C) Tommy Kirk is gay and unless Wil Wheaton's wife says otherwise, I'm fairly certain Wil Wheaton is a STRAIGHT weenie.

Maybe a little after he did Wesley Crusher in Star Trek: The Next Generation. The MST3K cast riffs on movies making references kind of like the one I did.

I first watched Village of the Giants with the girl I had a crush on in 1977 and it became one of my favorite films and I watched it every time it came on TV after that. In addition, we went to the theater and seen Pippi on the Run, and we went to the drive in to see a double feature of Autopsy (my first Italian giallo), and the cinematic epic that is Kingdom of the Spiders.

Despite Mike and the 'bots' jokes suggesting otherwise,the Beau Brummels were,in fact,Americans...the British invasion of the '60's made rock bands from the UK so huge,several American bands actually gave themselves names suggesting they were English.

This movie was pure fun. Even though it's not a good film, it had a good concept and got very creative with it. Also Ron Howard was in it. Sure it's dumb, but it embraces it.
