I think Neil played it in a double drop C with it tuned down a half step to begin with. That's how I remember playing it back in the day. Then because of my voice changing, I played it in a double drop D. Now because I'm really aging, I play it in D standard tuning. What I'm getting at is: I'll play it in any key as long as I feel confident and comfortable having the transposition fit my voice for one thing, and also have the end result sound like the freedom of expression I want to achieve for the audience. I think this artist was going for expression rather than correctness, and I'm sure he moved his capo up and down the neck a few times to figure out the exact sounds he was looking for to make this video. I gave the video a thumbs up because he played and sang the song the way he wanted to with sharing his emotions through the relationship with the notes he was playing and the vocals he was projecting. I really enjoyed how they performed this song. As far as comments: Everyone has their opinions even if it's disliking something. I'm okay with that as long as it's written with a certain amount of class and is not written to offend the person that made the video. A lot of times someone might write a comment or even a few words in a perspective without realizing their comment may be somewhat rude. I've even done it myself and had to come back and edit it. Like the words: " Bit cheesy that version but ok ". To me the word cheesy sounds insulting, but that may because where I hale from. I'm sure the person that commented didn't have a offensive intention because the last sentences written and they gave advice. The little smiley face : ) is what attracted me to dissect the comment, and provoked me to write what I just did. The moral of the story is just be careful of how you word things for everyone's sake. What, were you expecting an exact copy of Niel's song? This isnt karaoke. Its not expected to be exactly the same. Modern artists pay homage to the greats in their own way with covers that make it their own and a nod to the originator. If you wanted the "exact" song, go listen to Neil's version. This is their take and let them have their moment. I love Niel Young and I love what they did with this song. I love to hear new twists to old songs. It brings new listeners to old greats and thats what keeps the classics alive and the newer generation respectful of the past. This is great stuff. I can tell it came from their heart and now makes ME want to go cover it.
