People underestimate the fact that Ruto had been campaigning in Mt Kenya for 10 years. In those 10 years he had managed to get rid of veteran leaders in Mt Kenya who would oppose him. Raila only went on a campaign in Mt Kenya only one year to the elections. By the time he was campaigning in the region, the ground had already been severely disrupted. Raila chose to bank on Uhuru delivering the Mt Kenya vote, but Uhuru no longer commanded influence in the region in the lead up to the elections.

Churches are a big let down to the people. Anyone who takes a deep look into how people are suffering whether now or earlier would agree with me. Politicians should absolutely not joke with the lives of people. And the one big institution we have in society beyond political parties is the church. Regardless of how people vote, the church shouldn't give anyone a free pass. It's upon society, which churches are a major leader in, to check these politicians and therefore prevent widespread suffering. Anybody who betrays the lives of people using the church is a big traitor.

Within a year of the 2017 elections, they were already saying things about the former president that suggested they were very wrong to overwhelmingly elect him 3 times, with historic turnouts, singing "ni maombi" while at it. I would have expected a few of them to have reservations about re-electing him in 2017, going by the things they say. I see some of them electing other officials, like governors, then start expressing regrets within months of the vote. Waititu in Kiambu County is a good example.
