What does Kendrick mean when he says the word pimp. He frequently talks about the word and i know he doesn't mean it in its traditional definition."I can either pimp the situation or I can fall victim to it" or "...can pimp it to his needs". Can someone shine some light on this for me?

To be honest, it took me quite a lot of listens the whole way through TPAB to actually fuck with "u". It was only one time though when I closed my eyes and just listened to it, when it got to the part where the spanish housekeeper is knocking on the door and that crazy dirty beat slips in from left to right, and then when the beat fully kicks in like BAM! Shit just hit me so hard I almost started bawling my eyes out, it remains my favourite track after I experienced that.

He's so self-aware. You can see it in his eyes, too. He's been through things, he's doubted himself, he's been used, he's been tempted, he's achieved things and perhaps not felt the elation that is expected when you reach certain milestones. He's gained power and felt powerless at the same time. I saw him back in 2016 and the energy in the stadium was electric. I will never forget it. TPAB is one of my favourite albums of all time. As an artist and as a person of influence, Kendrick exists on an entirely different level. This may sound pretentious as hell but he's like the Bob Dylan of rap. He's a poet.

I've stayed away from rap and hip-hop for most of my life. I always used to think the music consisted of simplified and uninspired rhythm backing up hateful and violent vocals only aiming to gain popularity from shock value. To Pimp a Butterfly was the first rap/hip-hop album I have ever heard, and holy crap was I ever ignorant on the genre. I don't think I have ever heard a more personal and intimate record. The flow of the album is just sublime. Each track, each idea, flows effortlessly into each other painting a mosiac of different experiences. I freakin' love this album. This is the last time I judge a book by it's cover.

Kendrick is so down to earth it's simply eyeopening. Someone with his success, someone with his intellectuality, its amazing to see he's still right here with us and not flying off into the space of fame and money. I find so many similarities between me and him beneath the skin. I hope one day I'll be able to be in his position in a different way, and pimp the butterfly for good.

You can tell by the way Kendrick speaks that he's straightforward and real with you and not just bullshiting anything he states. What really got me was when he mentioned how his close friends died in the streets and how he felt survivors guilt on tour when it happened in the summer as he was overseas. He's really down to earth and honest.

TPAB isn't a mainstream album ya know? People who are calling the album "shit" aren't listening to it. They just jump to that because they're too lazy to listen and dissect and understand the full meaning behind the lyrics. And even the poems that is just straight spoken in the album. You can learn some real shit from Kendrick and especially this album and it's a damn shame when someone's ignorance keeps them from that

I don't get or like every song I've heard from him but I simply love TPAB and GKMC and I love listening to him talk on interviews. There are other artists that I know are very talented too but like you I can't get to enjoy their songs. It's all a matter of preference.

I literally have my moments when I'm chillin with my friend or my brother and I suddenly just think about summin from TPAB or GKMC or any of Kendrick's albums, and we literally sit for hours and talk about his lyrics and meaning and deeper meanings within songs and their titles themselves. Rare to come across not just a rapper than you can do this with but an artist in general. Find it fun as hell haha, and besides from his music being so good, it's one of the main factors why Kendrick is my favorite artist

I wish that this interview could've some how been attached to Kendrick's new album so you had to hear this before the album, because it explains alot. When i first listened to Kendrick's new album, I didnt like it because I felt like everything he was saying was just all a confusing bottle of emotions put with a beat, but from this interview, I now see that he had real experiences behind it. He went through some things, and the tracks are meant to be listened to, not just the beat blasting while your driving somewhere. This is why I appreciate Kendrick's style so much, he makes his music with a substance and a purpose, not just for fame.
