I very sorry your feeling the loss of your Mom during the trip. It’s is something how certain things set of a lovely memory that makes our heart ache for the person. We loved. I lost my mom a little over a year ago and it happens to me as well. I did love that the blades on the windmill was her waving at you. ❤❤❤

Two excellent videos re the Devils Highway in far S Arizona. Thank you for the sterling photos and commentary & the sense of solace and serenity in that country . I have a close friend, ecology Ph.D, he accompanied two resource rangers in the backcountry mountains of Organ Pipe National Monument, weeks ago, looking for & noting "tinajas" (water tanks) that potential wildlife could use. The humility & longing re family that had passed , was touching.

😢 aww Carol you had me crying. Windmills remind me of my gran way back when I was a little girl in Africa (that’s where I’m from) and I remember laying on the grass looking up at the windmill thinking what a beautiful majestic piece of invention, the windmill was on her land. Beautiful upload have a wonderful day family! ❤

Carol, your vulnerability is beautiful because we, whose mothers have passed, could feel how the windmill made a connection and memorial for you of your mother, just as each of us get to touch back in time, mentally and emotionally through other personal means and connect to memories of such an important person in our lives. And then your conclusion such as "teach me to number my days that i may grow a heart of wisdom". Take care in this precious time of mourning a time and person that is past, and yet future, and know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.

You just never know when grief will roll over you like the tides and sometimes it seems the smallest thing can set it in motion and then it recedes again. Carol, I do think this is how those we love stay in touch and over time those tears are mixed with more smiles. The important thing is the presence and memories these occurrences give us. I take great comfort in knowing my Mum is right there, hovering a bit above me, always nearby and if I am not paying attention, she lets me know ❤ Such landscape you have traveled through on this adventure, wow you all!! Be safe and well, Barret💕

Pretty sure there are loads of us out here who have lost close loved ones recently who are sharing your tears. You made a wonderful comparison- we are each in our own season. How I hope and pray that anyone missing a loved will feel the community of people who are also grieving their loved one but also sharing and understanding those feelings. It helps to realize others are feeling those same feelings. I look forward to the time when sadness is not the primary feeling-it will always be there but the good memories will eventually be primary. Blessings on you all and know that many people are grieving with you.

We feel what you’re going through missing your mom. My mother-in-law passed a little over a year ago. My wife misses her every day. We bought her a Windchime when she was in the hospital so she could see it every day and it’s supposed to light up at night, but it never did, after she passed, we brought it home and put it in our backyard and it lights up every night subtle things will remind you of your mother. My wife is sad every day she had a surgery and her mom was always there for her surgeries but she hasn’t been there for the last two so she’s been so sad, missing her and these times I’m glad we’re able to share these experiences with you and your family as you go through the things you’re going through

Those looked like WWII Marston Mats, more properly called pierced (or perforated) steel planking (PSP), is standardized, perforated steel matting material developed by the United States at the Waterways Experiment Station shortly before World War II, primarily for the rapid construction of temporary runways and landing strips (also misspelled as Marsden matting). The nickname came from Marston, North Carolina, adjacent to Camp Mackall airfield where the material was first They were used here where I live. I remember them from a swimming pool on a military installation here. We used to have to wear flip flops cause those got so hot!
