I think the myth about the AK somewhere got lost in translation. The idea that an ak can be pulled out of the mud and run fine is wrong, but that an ak in almost any condition can be made to run again without spare parts or an armorer is probably right. These might seem like similar ideas, but are opposite engineering priorities. And seems plausible to me.
@FlymanMS2 жыл бұрын
AK pulled out of the mud with its ejection port closed - could run easily. With its ejection port open and full of mud - you are likely to have problems from trivial to major soon.
@CraneArmy2 жыл бұрын
@@FlymanMS im pretty sure karl has done this test with an ak more than once and it didnt work out like that. but it was years ago and maybe my memory is wrong.
@gameragodzilla2 жыл бұрын
It's easy to fix because those ingress points are also egress points once you clean it, so dunking it in water and running the action a few times is enough to clear the action and get it working. The loose tolerances allow small bits of debris to get in, including fouling from cartridges firing, and the AK still work. It also allows the AK to keep functioning without much lube to reduce friction. That's why the AK has the reputation it does. I think the mud test, in a lot of ways, is the exception that proves the rule. A super sealed system like a toggle locked Luger keeps mud out, but once stuff does get in, it's much harder to clear and takes much less of it to gum up the action. That's why toggle locked systems aren't very common anymore.
@R.Tafolla2 жыл бұрын
@@FlymanMS but it’s so easy to get it to run again. Just wipe off the mud and remove big rocks or big clumps of sand and the gun, since it’s overgassed from the factory, will run again with no lube.

@Brahkolee2 жыл бұрын
It was likely a game of telephone, beginning with someone saying, "Man, the AK can run no matter what-- even if it's never been cleaned." Someone who doesn't have a ton of experience with firearms may not understand that carbon, soot, and other byproducts of combustion build up on guns, and that this should be cleaned off regularly to keep them maintained. Instead, they hear "dirty" and assume that refers to a rifle literally soiled with... well, soil. Dirt, earth, etc.
