Clearances are part of any comprehensive tolerance systems. But yes the way people use the terms is the thing. Two parts can be designed to have a loose running fit, an open fit (a bolt hole say in a part that gets bolted on, a sliding fit, size on size or an interference fit (press or shrink). I suspect this rifle was designed and toleranced using the ISO tolerancing system. These cover everything from precision fits to flame cut plate.

I first saw this bullpup in Kabul, Afghanistan in 2019. The Croatians were very accommodating when I expressed an interest into what was their VHS-02 with the CT-1.5x optic built into the carry handle. They had turned in their AK-47s for this new rifle. As a contractor, I was surprised not only at their level of English, but their new weapon. Overall, they really liked them. The only thing they didn't like was "too many parts" as compared to their old AKs. The Croats had some of the best and most modern gear. After returning to the US in September of 2019, I emailed Springfield about an import version, if they had an import version in semi-auto only, if there were plans for one here in the US, and finally if they hadn't planned on it, they definitely should. Never got a reply of any kind. I just found out that there here now with an MSRP of $2k. One finished a Gunbroker auction yesterday (19 JAN 2022) at $3,375 after 20 bids were placed. Compare the Croats to the Portuguese troops who were using the old wooden stock G3s and Walther P38 pistols (post WWII) and you can see why those guys were NOT happy! (The Portugues) LOL
@CyberWolf7552 жыл бұрын
Though the Portuguese didn't have to fight a civil war in the 90s losing a major amount of military equipment and scrounging for it during and after war time (luckily I was born afterwards 😅). But either way, it's good to hear that their investment into weapon manufacturing and arming the troops is going well.
@thecowboy63172 жыл бұрын
Now the portuguese army is issuing the FN Scar, although I have some friend who used the good ol' g3/hk91 through all the basic training. The g3 is a good and reliable weapon but it has a heavy trigger and don't even have a last round bolt hold open.

The G36 did it a bit better, with the bolt carrier having an extension that the plastic spring-loaded portion is attached to. The receiver has a cut for the extension and the extension keeps the hole covered, not sure how tight the seal is though.
@bavarianpotato2 жыл бұрын
@@fpsftw yeah, seems like a simple enough issue to fix, that would make this rifle virtually perfect in a mud test
@fpsftw2 жыл бұрын
@@bavarianpotato The problem becomes that copying the G36 would mean making new cuts (read: ingress points) in the receiver, as well as adding mass to the bolt carrier/op rod, which can further affect the rifle's ability to function. @colbunkmust2 жыл бұрын
The trigger pack is in the butt though, not underneath the charging handle. As Karl said the FCG was fine, it was the safety and trigger linkage that was at fault.
@azgarogly2 жыл бұрын

That’s a lot of extra stuff on the gun that would increase cost and need replacement to fix a problem that is also solved by not biffing it into mud soup. Even if you did just eat it straight into mud, it’s pretty easy to not then swivel the gun around in that mud before using it again.

Yaaaay mud test. I always blow people's minds when I tell and show them these mud tests. I couldn't help but notice that on the second run the action was short stroking. It would clear the casing enough to eject it but the bolt didn't go back far enough to fully cycle and pick up the next round. Probably would have started running better if not finished the mag. Yes I am fully aware that mud had gotten into the trigger linkage, however had you caught this you may have not pointed the rifle up and cause mud to get in said linkage.

indeed, the bolt carrier speed looked slow both back and foward

Inrange is a strong proponent of that theory, just look at their 416 video you will see that sentiment clearly (however i am personally not a fan of that test, as the 416 had far more mud blocking the ejection port than any DI ar had, and i really wish the mud tests where done multiple times with more controlled mud loadings)

The AR15 has the advantage of the gas venting out the side of the bolt carrier, blowing away a lot of mud and gunk which is probably the biggest contributing factor to it remaining top dog in the mud tests. I could physically see the mud working it's way into the action as it cycled during that mag dump as it simply stuck to the side of the bolt (I love these high quality videos for that stuff). I'm not really surprised it failed but the mud test has shut down a lot of otherwise extremely reliable and robust guns before. Always interesting to watch anyway
