When Alex pulled that bead out of the water I was so excited for a trade bead! To know about them is very cool, but to have an example to compare to in a museum is amazing, I have my own stash of trade beads from my family and others here in California, I look through them occasionally like a bead troll......

Hello! Glad you are able get out again. Just wondering if you could answer a question I have about safety. Do you ever worry about safety? Have you ever encountered any scary or intimidating persons when you are out in such isolated places? Maybe I am too paranoid. Thanks
@NorthernMudlarks
@NorthernMudlarks 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, we do think about our safety. Since we are usually searching in isolated areas, we are constantly taking note of other people. In fact, during this lark a man turned up, he was clearly drinking and made us feel uncomfortable enough for us to decide to leave for somewhere elce. X

I love your channel and look so forward to each episode. I especially love your backyard wildflower bed experience. Thank you so much for putting such effort into the creation of your vlogs. I really appreciate all the research that you both do and share about all your finds. It is fascinating to learn the history of these items, even if it is tragic or sad (ie. baby "medicine" bottle, slave beads). The nature clips and music choices you make are so beautiful. Getting to see what antics the shwews are up to is so much fun. Thank you soo much, again, for all your efforts as I look so forward to seeing a bit of your day in lovely Scotland.

Your little Asian vase piece is probably from Japan. There was a special Japanese exhibition in Knightsbridge at one point in the late 1800's that caused a huge rise in popularity for all things Japanese. Gilbert & Sullivan even wrote The Mikado after that exhibition which W.S. Gilbert had gone to. It might be a satsuma piece with the raised bits but the satsuma I have seen is usualll darker in color.

So lovely to see you ladies back on the mudlarking trail again. The little treasures you found were all very interesting. I really enjoy seeing the pieces cleaned up and discussed at the end. But I do get quite fascinated trying to spot things before you show...lol. I really enjoy the potted history of the most interesting things you find. I've even been able to impress my hubby with facts I've learnt from you posts. Haha, I even sounded like I knew what I'm talking about. Which obvs I do. I've learnt from professionals. (Don't you know) I really loved the little Tim soldier. What a find that was. How long I wonder has that little man been bobbing about. Keeping all his extremities safe, ready to shout out ....I'm here, save me! Right place, right time. I also looooved those beautiful cog pieces. And the day wouldn't be complete without a pretty bottle, which was such an appealing colour. At the end of the day though, that little tiny slave bead was so touching. What an amazing find that was. If only these things could talk. What stories they could tell us. Mmm maybe too sad to bare. A time best left in the past. But never forgotten! Good to see you back. Looking forward to next week's trip already. X

My father had a metal mold that he sometimes poured melted (very hot) lead into. When it cooled, he would open the mold and a new toy lead soldier would fall out. Sometimes there would not be enough lead to fill the mold; and, the new toy solder would be missing part of a leg or foot. Daddy would drop that solder back into the pot until we hand more lead to melt down to make more toy lead soldiers. We saved our old empty tooth paste tubes, and old damaged toy lead soldiers, for another cold winter day (when Daddy would make us some new toy lead soldiers). The new toy lead soldiers were always very bright and shining when they first came out of the mold. It did not take long to turn the lead solders dark and ugly.
