Nice pipe bowl. The smaller wonky shape ones are the oldest ones when tobacco was new and really expensive, so the pipes were smaller. But that's great to age them by.Thanks you guys.

I love that you are so interested in all things...fossils, ceramics, bottles, dinnerware, aquatic life, streams, bones, plants, old bridges, electric bits, car parts. It is the best part of life for me and sadly lacking in most people today. Heads down, looking at their phones, disinterested in life.

Best part of life indeed! Its comforting to know that there are like minded people out there. The Japanese have a term 'wabi sabi' it can mean a lot of things, but its taking joy in the transient and imperfect. Part of the aesthetic is enjoying objects that have been broken, worn, damaged or are imperfect as the damage speaks of its life and journey. Some of these things have had a most extraordinary journey one we can only guess at, each can be viewed as a little time traveler, when you think of it a pot made by hand in a little workshop, is bought and taken back to a farm house, one day it falls off a sideboard and breaks, is thrown into a river with trash, travels with the flow through floods, droughts, a thousand little nudges and knocks, finds itself picked out of the water 400 years later and becomes part of a collection in a warm house somewhere treasured and enjoyed...

@@pixiniarts exactly this sentiment! I love this! Sometimes people ask why I'm bothered about broken pottery etc, but this is the reason! Thank you x

I can remember reading a book on Japanese aesthetics and reading about Wabi Sabi and looking around at all the oddities I collect and it was like someone explaining something that I couldn't quite articulate about why I collect things, especially old, worn or broken things. If you haven't heard of it look up Kintsugi, the Japanese art of pottery repair, I think you will really like it.

This is my first visit as a new subscriber and I find it fascinating. I found your channel through Nicola White. The item at 6.45 looks like the vent/stand part of a meths burning picnic stove. Very common in the 30`s and 50`s when people used to go for a Sunday run in the family car.

The orange clock... it's an owl musical box! My brother had one (1981-ish). You wind it up at the back and it plays a nursery rhyme while its wings flap and its eyes roll, and the clock hands can be moved around by whoever is holding it. Quite sad seeing one all thrown away.

I am watching your channel for the first time, idling away some time while I am waiting for my nail polish to dry ( I believe in the UK you call it nail varnish), and so I am struck by how intact your blue polish is throughout this video! Oh my gosh! I usually just wear a light pink polish for everyday, but even then I have to wear rubber gloves when washing dishes or it will chip. You must wear some really industrial brand!

Hello Lucy , I am a rather new subscriber . I love your adventures. I am 61 years old , but I have always been a bit or a mudlarker my whole life. I live in Ohio USA now and I still walk down by the Scioto River bank and find many fossils, shells, an occasional old coin or two. My home is situated on one acre of land that was once Native Indian land, so I do find Arrowheads and Pottery shards as well. Do you make Jewelry from the shards or just keep them ? They are lovely finds. Wishing you the best ! God Bless and I hope you find many more wonderful Treasures !!!

Yes, it is an interesting area for sure. If you ever care too, google the Chillicothe Ohio mounds or Indian Mounds....we have these huge mounds that are Indian burial sites. Now , its illegal and obviously you cannot dig in the mounds, but close by certain areas and one can always find amazing bits of things. One day , when I have enough pottery shards and pattern pottery saved up , I want to make a Mosaic Bird Bath for my Garden area. Love and Hugs.

Lucy, The relic at Eight : Fifty Eight may be a part from an early industrial sewing machine. The two pieces sticking out lead me to think something was thick thread wound around it there. Nice little brown glass bottles midway into vid. The old relic at Twenty Eight min. is most likely the base of one of the old insulators. You got a nice variety of pottery pieces as well. : )

Regarding Frigidaire round cover. Could be a washing machine door. Another thought is that some early refrigerators had the cooling coils on the top, and these were often round: airconvintage.com/antique/index.php?refnum=1937%20GE%20monitor%20top. Maybe a cover for one of these, handle could be to remove/open it for cleaning the coils.

Lucy, the old boot is an interesting artefact. Regardless of its age, I was wondering if you kept and preserved it? If so, how did you go about with the preservation process? I recently discovered a little girls shoe in a river in the Blue Mountains of Australia and deem it around 120-150 years old. I’d love to be able to look after it and maintain its quality, so if you have any advice or tips about leather objects and their preservation, would you be willing to share with me? Cheers! Alex

Hi Lucy. Love your videos as always :). Nice pipe bowl! By the shape it looks to me like it could be from the 1600's. Love finding a good pipe bowl x Do you have any tips on cleaning up glass? I can never get the red/brown staining off of them x

Hi Jodi and thank you 😊 I love finding clay pipes too! I use something called Barkeepers Friend on my bottles and pottery, it's a great stain remover 👍. Xx

Hi Lucy, do you know of anywhere (other than Portishead!) to go mudlarking near Bristol? I am relying on public transport/bicycle so that definitely limits me!

If you can, buy a polarizer filter for your camera. It can eliminate reflections on the water. very useful

Hi Lucy, I think you will find that the mesh thingy you found at 6:09 is a lead plate from inside a lead acid battery from a car.

I am amazed at how many metal items you found in this video. When you find things like the cell phone which could leak toxins into the environment do you pick them up to dispose of them properly? I understand you leaving artifacts for others.

What region in England are you mudlarking in? The landscape looks lovely! Also do you clear some of rubbish away when you mudlark too? I think I would always take a bag of rubbish away if I had access to such lovely areas/landscapes. Nothing nearby my city unfortunately.

Love the channel!! Have you thought about cobbling together some sort of underwater viewing device, maybe a light weight tube, with a piece of glass attacked to one end, you'd be able to see so much more under all the glare of the water surface?
