I agree with @votum123, Severed is by far the shining gem of one the greatest albums of this genre....whole album is fantastically arranged, but Severed is something different...the precise, phat basslines, the lyrics, and the most underrated drummer in the last 30 years of any genre...Matthew Mcdonough, Severed is flat out fuckin dope. If this wont make the channel (as with my ((along with Randy Blythes)) favorite band Holy Fawn),viewers do youself a favor and listen for yourselves....dont get much better

LD50 remains one of the greatest albums in heavy music history, a joyous headf*ck of a record, and an album that must be experienced end to end in one sitting. And well done to the requester for not selecting the obvious choice from this record ('Dig'). My favourite track is -1.

Sonicaly and structurally this song and album still stands out as something super unique and alien. Definitely on another level from everything else deemed "Nu-metal" at the time. They really went above and beyond for this album. The bass is just a trip, but the drum tracks are something else too.

You guys are infectious, and Juds is fascinating. Mudvayne is my favorite thing that exists and this is the one song people should hear. Whoever recommended it, let’s be friends. I hope you guys explore more in this genre, please never stop! Ps if you ever do more Mudvayne, something like Skrying would be a peculiar choice for a musician to hear.

The repetition of certain parts of the song, in my opinion, is done to try and get inside the head of a disturbed person to some degree. It was meant to be uncomfortable and overstated I think.
@FirstLast-iw2jz
@FirstLast-iw2jz 3 ай бұрын
It’s both repetitive and chaotic to me. Sure there’s a pattern, and the lyrics can feel repetitive, but to your point it creates a lot of unease while listening/following along to it. I don’t know if this meets the definition of the word, but I think “disharmony” when trying to make sense of this song. I used to think Death Blooms was my favorite off the album, but this song hits at a really uncomfortable and strange yet mesmerizing level.

Don't think cuz a band is exploring what could make a man so sick, that in some way glorifies, vouches or, tries to justify it. Metal bands explore the extremities of human nature. Trying to think, "if I lived ed geins life would I have turned out like him?"... Just like slayer doesn't really worship Satan. I kinda think it's a bit near sighted to miss what these bands are saying.

"A little boy's best friend's always his mother. At least that's what she said. Life of a simple man. Taught that everyone else is dirty. And their love is meaningless. I'm so soiled!" The lyrics are dark for obvious reasons. And genius. Still one of my favs from the album with Severed being easily the best track.
