Low-rent beat 'em up with an art style that looks like something from the early 90s era of DOS gaming, Mug Smashers plays better than it looks. It's not to say the game is a classic brawler by any means, but to give it it's due, I've certainly played worse games. The comedic "hnnngggghhh" as your 'roid-infused pugilist hefts fire hydrants, oil drums and packing cases at all and sundry is a definite highlight.

The music is pretty sweet, I must admit. This game gives me vibes of the original _Final Fight_ , but the music is _Double Dragon_ -inspired. The comical proportions of the protagonists look like Stretch Armstrong.

@Keith Courage RX-78-2 Oh my gosh, you're right! The ending credits theme is so good they decided to use it for the demo mode, title screen and first level. And it's not just the music they directly copied; the weirdly proportioned sprites are also taken from that game, then traced over and scaled up! Well, you know what they say, imitation (or in this case, directly ripping-off) is the sincerest form of flattery.

The end of stage music is literally the same. Instrumentation and everything. Only this game uses it as start of stage music. Hahaha.

This looks like a perfect parody of 90s scrolling fight cliches and I LOVE IT 😂😂😂 Everything from the name to the player character to the level design and music is just 🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯 The bosses and their names couldn't be any more generic either "Bigman" "Hatman" "Fireman" 🤣🤣🤣 43:46 They rescue Shelia and don't bother the take the gag out her mouth 😂😂😂

Yeah, I think at that point, I consider the meal over, leave payment in cash while forgetting about the change, and hope like crazy I didn't leave too much information on the reservation sheet as I power-walk like hell outside and start considering Italian in the future.

@@andrzejkulakowski naaaaaah not really, not even in its time stood out. Sprite work and pixel art is beginner tops. Nowadays fan made custom pixel arts tops what this game ever did.

@@DonVecta I mean for the early 90's I find this art style really catchy (at least for me), because there are quite a few details like the shades the protagonist is rocking :D This and some more other details really fancies my eye and I'd have paid attention to them particularly back then :) Other than that, yes - graphically overall it's mediocre for it even back then.

Holy crap this game is ugly even by retro standards. Characters with misproportioned bodies, crappy sound effects and maps that look like they were drawn in MS paint!
