You took me back to my hippie years with this one! Great song! There were two styles of rock music back then in England. The mods and the rockers. The Small Faces were very influential. Later the group morphed into the Faces with a change in members. Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood. Ronnie Wood joined the Rolling Stones later on and Rod Stewart had a successful solo career. Cheers

Yes the Mods and Rockers had fashion styles that carried into the early days of psychedelic rock music-late 60s to 70s. It had nothing to do with Modern Jazz music.

The Small Faces were another great English band from the 60's. They had some great hits "Itchycoo Park", "Tin Soldier", "Lazy Sunday", "All Or Nothing", "Whatcha Gonna Do About It" etc. In 1969 after lead singer/guitarist Steve Marriott left the group to form Humble Pie" & the remaining members of Small Faces were joined by Ronnie Wood (guitar) & Rod Stewart (lead vocals), both from the Jeff Beck Group, & the new line-up was renamed "Faces".

One of my favorite songs from back then. “British Invasion” refers to the flood of British music artists and recordings that surged into the USA after The Beatles appearance on U.S. television and radio. I love how you are so open to exploring this era of music and into the 1970’s which was the BEST music era.

In the 60s, the Mod movememt was about rebellion. And the music influences were mainly soul, blues, and Ska. They had a distinctive style as you can see here, with their hair styles, and the way they dressed with fitted clothes. The 50s modern jazz that you mentioned doesn't really have anything to do with the 60s mod scene. The Beatles weren't Mods, but the kinks, the Who, The Small Faces were. You can hear alot of soul influences in these bands. Although, early Kinks and The Who from the early 60s sounded like very raw and punky. Just listen to My Generation by the Who from 1964, or All Day and All of The Night by The Kinks from the same year. Very ahead of their time. Then you have the Mod revival in the late 70s, of which the most notable band is The Jam who came out at the end of the punk scene. They sounded very punk, but with a hint of soul music in there too. In fact the Jam covered some old soul songs. Getting back to The Small Faces, have a listen to Tin Soldier, and Afterglow of Your Love. Totally different, and much heavier sound to Itchycoo Park's whimsical fun feel.

Go to their debut 1966 album titled Small Faces. Take a listen to the song called You Need Loving. Reminiscent of another well-known song? ✌️

The I-vi cadence is very 1950s pop. The mixolydian cadence and call-and-response lyrics and flange in the bridge (vocals and guitar) and drum fill are pure late-mid- '60s--the sweet spot between Beatlemania and the Summer of Love. Mod, as in mods vs. the rockers. Styles of British music, fashion, and manners.
