Great reaction As you said, the song is basically what Ren went through after being misdiagnosed ME, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, He was suffering real pain but they said it was all in his head. He's still angry that he took all this medication he didn't need. and his body is still suffering from their side effects it caused. Ren's in Canada now getting stem cell treatment, In the Knox Hill interview Ren says he will be there for around 1yr. Also he clarified what the pig meant. It doesn't represent individuals, like doctors, or nurses. he said its the System they work in. In the USA it would be the Hospital administration, their hierarchy corporations. In the UK because our Free healthcare is mostly funded by the Gov. The UK National Health Service is suffering from huge underfunding by our Gov.

Ren says that the pig has meaning for him, but he prefers not to tell us what that is because he enjoys seeing what meanings we give it. Ren's busking video with his friend Sam Tompkins, covering Earned It/Mamas World/Falling is exceptional, as are his shows with his band The Big Push.

Another great reaction. Ren's release, "Sick Boi," is almost another chapter to "Hi Ren." As you noted, iIt is filmed in the same room as “Hi Ren.” Ren is very critical of the medical establishment, and understandably so, given that all his symptoms were initially wrongly chalked up as depression, bipolar disorder, and chronic fatigue syndrome, which led him to experience psychosis and develop PTSD. It would take seven years before a doctor in Belgium finally correctly diagnosed Ren with autoimmunity, Lyme disease, and resulting damage to the brain, organs, joints, and PTSD. Ren's personal reflections are threaded through many of his songs; “Crutch,” "Insomnia," "Depression," “Diazepam," “Penitence,” “Dear God,” “Heretic,” “Dominos,” his "Freckled Angels" album, just to name a few, all deserve a listen. Ren loves it when people find meanings that he may have only subconsciously made….it expands the mind and adds to the enjoyment and relevance of his music. REN is a boss. The best framing of the pig in his works, at least as I see it, is as the pervasive power of inhumane conceit, by which I mean the contemptuous ego, that which is in all of us that is indifferent to the “downstream effects” of our own greed and conceit. In this case the psychiatrist’s conceit was her indifferent diagnosis that Ren was making himself sick when really he was being ravaged by an actual disease. The misdiagnosis’ “downstream effect” entailed a decade of pain, progressive degeneration and psychopathy and permanent disabilities and health impacts. Seeing the inhumanity in others AND oneself is empathy no less than mutualizing joy, suffering or sadness.

I think the pig also represents the greed of big pharma that values profits over the well-being of patients. Ren's been prescribed so many pills that made his health worse while they made profits.

Ren encourages us to derive our own interpretations from his words, so if you find any meaning in this statement, it's wonderful. He mentioned observing people's reactions, specifically something said by the reactor, even though he didn't intend any significance behind it. However, now I can understand it from the reactor's perspective.

I think of the Pig as a symbol for the sins and corruption of humanity. It's like the "friend" that's really the devil on your shoulder. He's there to shepherd you down the corrpt path. You make the choice, so you're responsible, but he's trying to influence you. Not to forget that the Pig is influencing others as well. I like how the music is produced. It's quite loud to start. So loud it's hard to decipher the lyrics, but that's what it's like when you're sick. You're trying to listen to your doctor, but you've got all this stuff going on in your head. I think that childlike chanting continuing goes with that. Its busy-ness makes sense. It's really rewarding that Ren does it all - producing the beat, the lyrics, the rapping/singing, mixing it all, etc. The timing works perfectly, so it ends up sonically pleasing.

As someone who has also gone through some similar issues with miss diagnoses and medications, I never should have had. I interpret the pig as the pig headed doctors that were his butchers as they ignored him and other red flags in his condition because it was rare.

Just as we take from the earth knowing we are hurting ourselves he takes the medicine knowing it hurts him. It's counter to any intelligence to do so, but he goes to the pharmacy counter and gets his meds.

I think the pig represents the failed medical system that misdiagnosed him and "butchered" him for so long. That's just my idea though. Fun fact: The cool choir like line in the background is a Bulgarian folk song. "snake oil merchant" is a reference to medical practicioners who don't know wtf they are doing.
