Good thing about both was that both acknowledged the other's advantage at some point. Ali mentioned continued pain and discomfort in his legs. Inoki admitted that standing and going toe to toe with Ali would have ended the match much faster and he would have no chance at lasting this long

@@christophsteingraber1952 no no trust me. While it was a boring ass fight, there was extensive damage to Ali's legs. Ali's legs were no joke, not like a regular man's legs either. Just with the thrust kicks and the extremely short range shin and foot strikes, Inoki meted out extensive damage to Ali's legs. I trained for at least 7 years and I can say that lying down, I can jab n kick all I want, I will not do that much damage. Inoki's hands and legs felt like they were steel. I was really young when I first saw this fight but years after the televised account there were commentaries on it on TV that have many details from various sources. Trust me, we can't mete our such damage in so less range or opportunity.

@m0rShh

From what I understand, there was a misunderstanding between Ali and Inoki's promoters. Ali and his people agreed to the match thinking it was a staged exhibition, but Inoki insisted it was a real fight. Supposedly when Ali saw what Inoki was capable of in the ring, he realized he was way in over his head and that he stood a very real chance of losing. Ali's people insisted on a ruleset where Inoki basically wasn't allowed to use his arms against Ali at all, and could only kick if he had one knee on the mat. So he did the only thing he was allowed to do - kicked Ali in the shins over and over.

@@m0rShh I heard that Ali was supposed to make it a staged fight but that he felt he couldn't lie to his fans like that and agreed for it to be a real one. Ali's people definitely feared the kicks and they added that rule that basically forced Inoki onto the ground. It's really funny because it simultaneously avoided Ali's fists, the only weapons he was alotted/the only thing Inoki feared while also giving him the advantage. If Ali tried to do something goofy like that, he'd just put himself into grappling range. Personally, the thing I thought was the worst part was the rule added to make sure that Ali had a fighting chance on the mat, and that was if Ali could grab the rope of the ring, the Ref would stand both fighters up again. It felt pretty cheap, but then again so did Inoki's exploit.

@@PaleHorse68 i have one genuine question, why are people who practice wrestling,ju jitsu, karate or any other martial art scared to punch a boxer??? Like they will kick a boxer, wrestle a boxer, submit a boxer, but nobody will punch a boxer, Why??? Is it fear? Because these guys always make it out like "ohhh id kick that boxers ass" them i say "ok fight them in their own sport" and they will be like "oh but that puts me at a disadvantage" and i always have to prove the point "no it doesnt, it just proves every person in martial arts are scared of boxing a boxer. If that wasnt the case, this fight would have been inoki actually trying to punch ali. I just dont get the fear i train for boxing too im 5ft9 and 135lbs and anytime i find a kick boxer or karate person or whatever i notice the same thing. They will agree to a kick fight but once i say punches only they fold. If mma is that good why do they RARELY use punching even though no matter what you practice punching is really useful in a fight. So is the orhers but why cant you equally use your kicks and wrestling with punching too it just doesnt seem that hard for lets say a wrestler to be able to punch a boxer. So why wont they even fucking try???

Forced? Forced to add mass to their hands and area to their guard? Forced to wear gloves so thick they allow you to hit with all your strength without destroying your hands? Those trained in groundfighting and throws use thin/no gloves because they need their fingers to grapple. Boxing gloves are not a handicap; they're a weapon.

@@AvelcaineThe joke is a reference to Art Jimmerson, a boxer who famously lost to Royce Gracie at UFC 1 while wearing a single boxing glove. Thankfully, John McCarthy told him that wearing a full set of boxing gloves would greatly hinder his ability to defend in the clinch or against takedowns (2 attacks that would be stopped by referee in traditional boxing). So, Jimmerson elected to go half ungloved so the tap out would be easily registered by the officiant... which he did two minutes into the first round. Completely agree that boxing gloves are great for the sweet science of boxing, but maybe less so for freaskhow mma bouts 😉

In the first place, Muhammad Ali regarded the fight as an exhibition and did not consider it a serious fight. Inoki, on the other hand, was challenging Muhammad Ali with the intention of killing him. Therefore, because of their differences, Muhammad Ali's side unilaterally changed the rules and included a rule prohibiting standing kicks, which led to a fight in which the fighters kicked each other while lying down. The fact that both fighters remained friends and praised each other after the fight showed that they could communicate with each other despite differences in national borders, languages, and values. Muhammad Ali's entrance song, "Bombaye," became Inoki's signature entrance song as a professional wrestler. ワイは日本人やで。盲目な外国人は未練がましく偽りの栄光に酔いしれていてくれ。

@@AJ-xv7ohIn the first place, Ali's side wanted to have an exhibition with other fighters. Then Inoki, the best pro-wrestler in Japan, turned his attention to it and went to Ali's side in his crested hakama to request a match. For those who don't know Inoki, he was pursuing a realistic fighting style called "strong style" in pro wrestling. Inoki was also the first to do different types of martial arts fighting, and the UFC was able to use this as a reference. Ali, realizing that he was no ordinary pro wrestler, began to offer various conditions for the match, and negotiations began to be difficult, and it is close to the truth that Inoki's side was in tears. However, as a result, the match ended without much success. It seems that Inoki had such a good relationship with Ali that he was invited to Ali's wedding at the end of the match.

This is real, there were stipulations that grappling (takedowns) was not allowed but kicking was allowed. Antonio was a real submission wrestler trained by Karl Gotch, very advanced fighter for that time. Ali would have no chance in a MMA fight against him. Ali was probably the best boxer ever, among the best at least, but he would lose in a MMA fight against Inoki. Strikers were not aware of takedowns back then.
@MCXM111

Ali would have knocked Inoki within 2 rounds. Wrestlers are not used to taking a punch to the face. That's why pure wrestlers or BBJ guys suck at MMA. Untill they learn how to throw and take a punch.

Here are the rulesets for this match incase you are wondering: 1. No Tackles or Throws: Inoki was not allowed to execute traditional wrestling moves such as tackles, throws, or any maneuver that involved taking Ali to the ground directly. 2. No Kicking Above the Waist: Inoki could only kick if one of his knees was on the mat, effectively preventing him from delivering high kicks that could potentially injure Ali. 3. No Use of Closed Fists: Both fighters were prohibited from using closed-fist punches to the head. This rule was particularly significant for Ali, whose primary weapon in boxing was his punch. 4. Limited Use of the Ring: Inoki had to spend most of the fight on the mat to comply with the rules and to avoid Ali's striking range. This led to a strategy where Inoki spent a large portion of the match on his back, kicking at Ali's legs.
