This is a Mool Mantra in a 18 beat cycle #GuruNanak550. It was recorded as part of a year long 550th birthday celebrations for Guru Nanak. I published this 18 beat cycle Mul Mantra in an album and just looped it to make it 1 hour long. The translation on the screen is simplistic at best; the true meaning of the Mul Mantra comes clear only through long-term meditation.
It is said that the Mul Mantar was the first composition of Guru Nanak Dev Ji - however, some say it was one of his final compositions that he did at Kartarpur. The Guru Granth Sahib has 32 occurrences of the Mool Mantra - once at the beginning, and once each at the beginning of each of the 31 raagas in the Guru Granth Sahib.
Transliteration -
Ek Oaʼnkār saṯnām karṯā purakẖ
nirbẖa▫o nirvair akāl mūraṯ
ajūnī saibẖaʼn gur parsāḏ.
एक ओँकार सतनाम करता पुरख
निरभौ निरवैर अकाल मूरत
अजूनी सैभं गुर प्रसाद ॥
Ik or Ek - There is ONE(Ik) reality, the origin and the source of everything. The creation did not come out of nothing. When there was nothing, there was ONE, Ik.
Onkaar- When Ik becomes the creative principal it becomes Onkaar. Onkaar manifests as visible and invisible phenomenon. The creative principle is not separated from the created, it is present throughout the creation in an unbroken form, 'kaar'.
Satnaam- The sustaining principle of Ik is Satnaam, the True Name, True Name.
Kartaa Purakh- Ik Onkaar is Creator and Doer (Kartaa) of everything, all the seen and unseen phenomenon. It is not just a law or a system, it is a Purakh, a Person.
Nirbhau- That Ik Onkaar is devoid of any fear, because there is nothing but itself.
Nirvair- That Ik Onkaar is devoid of any enmity because there is nothing but itself.
Akaal Moorat- That Ik Onkaar is beyond Time (Akaal) and yet it is existing. Its a Form(Moorat) which does not exist in Time.
Ajooni- That Ik Onkaar does not condense and come into any birth. All the phenomenon of birth and death of forms are within it.
Saibhang- That Ik Onkaar exists on its own, by its own. It is not caused by anything before it or beyond it.
Gurprasaad- That Ik Onkaar is expresses itself through a channel known as Guru and it is only its own Grace and Mercy (Prasaad) that this happens.
Alternative Translation -
One Universal Creator God. The Name Is Truth. Creative Being Personified.
No Fear. No Hatred. Image Of The Undying,
Beyond Birth, Self-Existent. By Guru's Grace ~

Dhan Guru Nanak. I Can Listen this soothing mantra entire day.. Loved it. I hav a doubt . Other ppl on YT have Sung this mool mantra but they all have one Line extra. #Guru_Arjun_Dev_Ji Baani ⬇️ "अचुत पारब्रहम परमेसुर अंतरजामी ॥ मधुसूदन दामोदर सुआमी ॥ रिखीकेस 👉गोवरधन धारी मुरली मनोहर हरि रंगा ॥ मोहन माधव क्रिस्न मुरारे ॥ जगदीसुर हरि जीउ असुर संघारे ॥ जगजीवन अबिनासी ठाकुर घट घट वासी है संगा ॥ धरणीधर ईस नरसिंघ नाराइण ॥ दाड़ा अग्रे प्रिथमि धराइण। बावन रूपु कीआ तुधु करते सभ ही सेती है चंगा॥ 👉श्री रामचंद जिसु रूपु न रेखिआ ॥ बनवाली चक्रपाणि दरसि अनूपिआ ॥ सहस नेत्र मूरति है सहसा इकु दाता सभ है मंगा ॥ भगति वछलु अनाथह नाथे ॥ गोपी नाथु सगल है साथे ॥ बासुदेव निरंजन दाते बरनि न साकउ गुण अंगा ॥(अंग page 1082) हरे कृष्ण हरे राम हरे कृष्ण हरे राम भज् गोविन्दम् भज् गोविन्दम् गोविंदम् भज् 🙏 " हरि हरनाकस हरे परान ॥ अजैमल कीओ बैकुंठहि थान ॥ सूआ पड़ावत गनिका तरी ॥ सो हरि नैनहु की पूतरी ॥२॥ अर्थ: प्रभु ने हरणाक्षस (दैत्य) को मारा, अजामल पापी को बैकुंठ में जगह दी। उस हरि का नाम तोते को पढ़ाते हुए वेश्या भी विकारों से हट गई; वही प्रभु मेरी आँखों की पुतली है।2। हरि हरि करत पूतना तरी ॥ बाल घातनी कपटहि भरी ॥ सिमरन द्रोपद सुत उधरी ॥ 👉🧐गऊतम सती सिला निसतरी ॥३॥ पद्अर्थ: पूतना = उस दाई का नाम था जिसको कंस ने गोकुल में कृष्ण जी को मारने के लिए भेजा था; ये स्तनों पर जहर लगा के गई, पर कृष्ण जी ने स्तन मुँह में ले कर इसके प्राण खींच लिए; आखिर मुक्ति भी दे दी। घातनी = मारने वाली। कपट = धोखा, फरेब। द्रोपद सुत = राजा द्रोपद की बेटी, द्रोपदी। सती = नेक स्त्री, जो अपने पति के श्राप से सिला बन गई थी, 👉🧐श्री राम चंद्र जी ने इसको मुक्त किया था।3। अर्थ: बच्चों को मरने वाली और कपट से भरी हुई पूतना दाई का भी उद्धार हो गया, जब उसने हरि-नाम स्मरण किया; नाम-जपने की इनायत से ही द्रोपदी (निरादरी से) बची थी, गौतम की नेक स्त्री का पार उतारा हुआ था, जो (गौतम के श्राप से) शिला बन गई थी।3। केसी कंस मथनु जिनि कीआ ॥ जीअ दानु काली कउ दीआ ॥ प्रणवै नामा ऐसो हरी ॥ जासु जपत भै अपदा टरी ॥४॥१॥५॥ अर्थ: उसी प्रभु ने केसी व कंस का नाश किया था, और कालीया नाग की जान बख्श दी थी। नामदेव विनती करता है - प्रभु ऐसा (कृपालु बख्शिंद) है कि उसका नाम स्मरण करने से सब डर और मुसीबतें टल जाती हैं।4।1।5। भाव: प्रभु का स्मरण सभी धर्मों से श्रेष्ठ धर्म है। नाम-जपने की इनायत से सब मुसीबतें टल जाती हैं, बड़े-बड़े विकारी भी विकारों से हट जाते हैं।
