This is such a great video. Thank you. I knew that it was not extremely difficult to convert a common air conditioning compressor to 12 volt. You have given me the inspiration.

great for making videos only, not worth trying myself, that motor inside wont last a minute, first answer me where the motor housing attached to? if you could show then its believable.

It's cool and I love it, but am thinking of heat. Don't you think that the motor might be damage due to excessive heat because of the enclosure. No air to cool it down. You know it will be giving out heat as it works.

Oh Oh, looks neat, however please be careful. Make certain there are no flammable refrigerants used in what ever you apply this to. And also, the carbon brushed motors should not be used , may create phosgene gas... (only use brushless). Cool video.. :)

The brushes wear and will put debris into the oil and then it clogs the tubing, so this will fail pretty quickly. You need a brushless motor if you are doing this kind of thing. I've actually rewound the stator and put permanent magnets on the rotor, but I have found that without the rear bearing, the magnets cause the rotor jam into the stator. The newer (say 2010 or so, variable speed compressors from a Samsung have 3 phase motors, and as such, it is MUCH MUCH easier to just use a 12v->120vac inverter to run them, as they can do soft start and don't need a huge inverter to run. That is what I do for my RV fridge project.

The idea altogether is good but i don't think that dc motor's torque will will be equal to that of the ac squirel cage motor. I don't think it would provide enough compression . Moreover, there is that point of motor cooling. Such closed dc motors are not designed to work 24 hours 7 days. And more immportantly, they have that problem of the brushes that wear out and need to be replaced.

The right approach is to use the same motor and then change the 220-volt or 110-volt Winding to 12-volt Winding.

Smart idea, sealed motor so the Brushes won’t contamination the oil or refrigerant. Check. Ambient air cooled motor, check. It’ll live a happier life in there than it will with ambient air cooling, having cool refrigerant vapor returning too it.

The oil not distroide the motor?

Youll get high temp in the coils working under 12v DC, youll need high current to run it and current means heat. Moreover this compressor works with presured and vapourized oil inside it. So i dont recommend do this thing
