This is a review of the Fluke 177. This is Fluke's true RMS digital multimeter with 6000 count. This is an entry level multimeter for electrical / electronics.
I will be using this multimeter in a future series on "How to use a multimeter for beginners" (multimeter tutorial)
I do a comparison with my Fluke 115 and Fluke 287.

I have the original Fluke 87 industrial meter, as I was an electrician. But I was an electronics hobbyist, since my youth. The Fluke 177 is the greatist balance meter, that I have ever had!

Hi Martin. Just a quick one, at 13:30 the Fluke 175, 177 & 179 do have an AC mV range, but its in the normal AC mode. So auto-ranging in AC: 600mV, 6V, 60V, 600V, 1000V.

thank you! amazing work. btw. one idea for future - if you compare resistance between different mulimeters, then please short probes first and write down result and then measure resistor and subtract that probes loss value.

Quick question which one would be best for car audio installs, diagnostics? and if I can use around the house as well..... IM thinking of 115 but not really sure....

my dad had one at his job doped it stop working so he gave it to me and tried to fix it got mad and threw it started to work but hear and there the display goes out but if you wack it it will start working agan

Hi, I have a 179 and when measuring resistance with leads shorted it shows 0.2-0.3 Ohms. I tried a jumping wire directly and then tried each lead individually and to my surprise, when any of the leads is connected to the positive socket the resistance is ~0.2 but when any of the leads is connected to the negative socket the resistance is about 0 Ohms, is that normal? is that caused by different material used in the sockets?

I have new 179, and the backlight is white, and I believe two levels of brightness. Excellent quality meter!

Is the 179 any good for electronics work? I'm worried about the lack of a uA range but I don't know if that's a vital feature

Martin, you should change the title to Fluke 177 review:) Fluke 117 is actually very very simillar to 115. Even so, I use my 115 for exclusively for electronics, and if you don't need uA measurements, you can get by just fine. It only has 1 mA resolution on A range, but personaly, for many of my hoby projects, 1 mA of resolution is fine. Nice review as always!

Thanks for posting this review Martin. I'd almost bought the 115 'til I saw it doesn't have mA measuring. I then thought about the 116 which has uA measuring but only a 600uA range and that's it! I then watched this review and was exactly the one I was looking for. Affordable (well, still expensive but I found a great deal) and it does everything I need. Mine came with a pair of TL175 leads but I think they come with TL75 nowadays. Perhaps the leads are something worth mentioning in the reviews as well next time.

Can you help me narrow down my choice? I have a Fluke 112, and a 73. I think these are both focused for Electrician-type work. I want a meter more focused towards electronics....and one that might surpass the two I have in terms of accuracy. Any suggestions??

Nice review, i have the 115 and i dont think i'll ever grow out of it. Those leads you are using look great! I didnt get them with my 115. I want them. What are they called?

I have the 177 but the backlight is whiter like that 115, not the greenish one on the video. I guess they updated them. I love the 177!

Martin, I was thinking that when you do super close ups anyway that 480p is really plenty for such reviews. or 720p if you feel it must be HD. I appreciate the quality sensibilities but if it's a better overall compromise for you maybe 480 or 720 is plenty.

If you want to stay with Fluke then have a look at the 177 / 179...or look at the UNI-T UT61E.

when i try to measure my skin resistance between both two hands and it result in 1.260 megaohms.....

I short the leads on my fluke 179 set to mv ac and is shows 0.5 after waiting about 15-20 seconds is this normal? Any help would be greatly appreciated guys 😊

In my school we use Fluke 175. It's almost the same as 177 but the 177 is more accurate. And 175 doesn't have an back light

whats the difference between a diode tester and just a continuity test on a diode. does it tell you activation voltage. (or whatever it's called. (breakdown voltage)? )

ipreferns you can test the forward voltage drop on the diode tester, but you can select between those two

Question i am measuring frequency before I even connect the leads to the like it picks up the frequency when the leads are near the linethat normal? Using a fluke 179 meter

Switch on to AC volts and it defaults to millivolts.

Mjlorton Sir, i just received a used Fluke 175 true rms multimeter from my former classmate in college BSEE, he is working as a chief electrician in a cargo vessel, but i am a kind of rusty since i have been a firefighter for 10 years now and never work in any electricity. May i know how to calibrate this device it would be a great help since i have project working on my 2nd hand 1995 suzuki vitara power windows broken. Thanks and more power to you.

Your title states 179 but you didn't show us the 179? Why not?

I guess they're basically the same except for the added Temp measurement on the 179.

@@Boomchikawahwah Okay, that makes sense. Can't decide on which one I would utilize the most. The 87-V or the 179. Fluke says the 87-V is most popular but just because it's more popular doesn't mean I have to have it.
