I found your descriptions of Jessica's multiple disabilities very illuminating. I understand some of the frustrations. My youngest child is 51 years old, full autism syndrome, mental age of 2 yrs 9 mos, non verbal. He lives at home. So we have a 51 yr old toddler with all the problems that come with a two yr old .Fortunately other than type 2 diabetes, he doesn't have multiple disabilities. I understand the frustrations with the system being complicated by her multiple disabilities. I have only recently found your site. I noticed you had the question of why didn't you put her into a group home, but she is your daughter and I am sure you want to protect her, we have always kept our son with us.

I have a cousin that turn 77. She had water on her brain from samething. She handicap w age of 5. But she amazing and goes with our whole family never excluded and we love her

I know some people with Hydrocephalus and Cerebral Palsy and I am an Autism Awareness Advocate. You are blessed! I never knew the depths of my sister's struggles until she passed in April and left behind a disabled adult child. I finally started opening her mail and found a letter that lists my nephews dx's. He too has multiple (5) on top of him being nonverbal. It does help me understand his condition better and why she maybe didn't feel comfortable sharing them all with us. He has to have 24 hrs care, so he lives where that is possible and still close enough for family to visit. I'm new to this and glad I found this video. Thank you for sharing.

I just saw your video, where you talked about multiple disabilities. I’ve been following you for a while and I totally understood everything you said when you talked about it, I said to myself I saw that. I wonder if it’s this I wonder if it’s that everything you said I saw it. It could be because I am a retired educator in elementary school. We had a lot of children come through our school we didn’t have blind children. They went to a special school, and we did have children that were in wheelchairs with hydrocephalic. You are doing an amazing Job. I love the way she loves cards. Oh my gosh she loves cards. I can’t imagine how many decks of cards that girl has. I’ve watched her go in her bedroom and put them on her bed and open them up and smell them. I love it I love your family. You are amazing and don’t let anybody tell you different girl. I love how she always kinda talks into just maybe one more chicken nugget maybe six I love it. Typical you know that’s it that’s it that’s a typical person. Just one more are you sure have a blessed day the rest of your starting of this new week in November. I hope your weather is cool down. I know ours has here in Mississippi.

I prefer this style of video and her day-to-day videos more than her fan mail. I do love that you are starting to give her some more boundaries in her fan mail more often now as she seems to get so out of control excited and needs to take a minute timeout just to take a breath and then start again so she can enjoy it all over again.

Hello Good Ones, Hello Jessica from South Australia/ Australia. I’ve just started watching all your videos, I’m enjoying them so much. My 2nd eldest 8 yr old grandson. He has a lot of medical conditions, he is autistic, and has ADHC MICRO DELETION, apparently there’s only 5, in either, the world or Australia, so any treatment is trial and error. But I’m learning a lot from your videos, for when he’s older, and somethings that I’m already using for him. He has 3 (1 older 2 younger) brothers, and 2 sisters, (younger). They all love each other and show affection, hugging and kissing each other, the ages are, 2,4,5,6,8,and 10 years old, their mother and father (my son) are only 27, and as he grows stronger, it’s a struggle when he has big feelings, he parrots, and lots of other things. He knows his pro noun’s, finally clicked in last 6 months. He loves his siblings, sometimes a little too hard, and too often for them, and he can’t understand why? When he meets new people and learns new names, he will ask them what their names is? Then say hello every times he sees them while they’re there, fixating on that person/s. I would really like to get in contact with you, because we’re in over our heads. I think maybe you all should write a book? He has an SSO at school, who just works with him. But would like picking your brain. Be well, and safe, and warm over the Xmas break. Rebecca

Val you have done so much for getting Jessica the right diagnosis. I was born with CP and it took a long time for my perants to get help. I went to a special school and when I was 17 I learnt to drive. I got a job. I got married when I was 20. I then started the journey to have a family. After 3 still births and 6 miscarriage I had my son. He is now in his 40 and I have 2 beautiful grandchildren. A girl and a boy. I think you are fantastic Val and you remind me of how my mother and father had to fight for me. Sending my love to you all. Xx

Just wanted to say how much I love finding your channel and that you're sharing Jessica’s and your story. As a multiply disabled woman about two years younger than Jessica who still lives with my mom, I can relate to a lot of what she and you both have been through and how she acts. In some ways we’re very different, but in others, we're so alike. I'm totally blind, autistic, and have a long list of chronic illnesses. If I were to write every diagnosis down, there would be 15-20 of them. They cause chronic pain, fatigue, sensory processing issues, memory loss, and anxiety. I started watching your channel since it shows someone I can relate to, another multiply disabled adult in a similar situation to mine. There’s very little support out there for adults with multiple disabilities, so it's rare to find anyone with a story similar to mine.

I am so grateful that you have chosen to share your family's journey with me. People who have personally experienced these triumphs and challenges are the best teachers.

I want you to write a book !! I stumbled across you and Jessica on social media last year. I’m a Child Care Health Consultant Nurse and I admire you for sharing her story. I always think “what is Valerie’s story and how did it change the course of your life and you are such a great mom. There are so many factors to consider and with all of the different professionals being involved, it took you and your persistence to get all of the multiple diagnoses and then work to provide everything Jessica needs to learn and communicate. It’s really amazing :)

I just love how open and gracious you are in trying to educate and open our eyes to why Jess and others like her are (yes they have a diagnosis or multiple diagnosis') but,.... that there is so much more to her than just that diagnosis. It's helped me to learn to stop and "notice" if maybe there's a reason someone may be reacting, or not reacting or exhibiting a behavior I may not understand but need to learn so I know how to react and respond to them. I think sometimes it's easy for us to rush by the Jessica's of this world and that's not right. She doesn't deserve that, she deserves for us to stop, to notice, to listen and to learn how to communicate with her on her terms. And that's just how it is and should be. That's just my humble opinion but, Val you've helped me to learn that and I'm a much more patient and hopefully a better advocate now because of it. I've actually watched your videos for about a year now (without being subscribed. I know, I was stupid 😊. I am sub now. Anyway.....) Hi Val when I was three years old I was diagnosed with cerebral palsy my mom has special teachers for me speech therapy who went to the Orthopedic Hospital once a month or every week so I can learn how to walk I had braces put on me I would Oxford I was born cry cited when I was 18 operation and the doctor said it might fail because one of my eyes was weaker than the other and I were classes my mother died in 2005 I live with her we took care of each other I took care of my mom even though I had a disability I took care of her until she died and I couldn't take care of her anymore my mother was worried who was going to take care of me my mom gave me so much Independence that I told her not to worry God will take care of me I have brothers and sisters they had thrown life when my mom died I still with the appointment and I paid my rent my pack groceries I know how to drive she let me do everything as a normal person I thank God for that my mom was a great mom when I had trouble in school let her special teachers that would help me and make sure I had everything I need it so I know that I can do things on my own home rent I pay my bills and one thing I know that God Is Watching Over Me

I was curious about age of diagnosis and symptoms that presented at specific ages. I’ve worked at a home and program site for people with cognitive and physical disabilities so I appreciate learning about specifics. I never thought twice about Jessica utilizing a wheelchair in certain environments, it makes perfect sense. I can’t even explain to you how much I look forward to your videos. It makes me want to get back into working with people with developmental and physical disabilities.

Thank you for helping others. My son is 30 with multiple disabilities. It's soooo hard! My son has many diagnoses, and I believe he is autistic, but never that diagnosis. He is deaf and has been since birth. Our babies with multiple disabilities are certainly a handful, but I wouldn't change a thing.

I’m watching this video because I just watched the video about Jess not saying thank you. It really hurts my heart that people say mean things to your family. I don’t understand why people are concerned with her not saying thank you. Why do people have to question a disabled girl. This is a channel about education, and about an awesome autistic girl. It’s pretty obvious she needs prompts. They are probably trolls bored out of their mind. Val keep being exactly who you are. I hope to be just like you when I grow up 😉♥️

Val, thanks for sharing. I, too, have multiple disabilities that went relatively unnoticed from birth to my early to mid 20s. I have mild spastic CP, dysnomia (type of dyslexia), executive functioning issues and mild gross and fine motor delays.I’m grateful to a high school English teacher for starting the ball rolling on the learning disability. I also wonder, you’ve seen so many posts by me now, what type of seizures Jess has. I believe I saw in a “bideo” or a blog that you stated they were almost imperceptible. Are they focal seizures or staring seizures? Thank you so much for sharing about Jess. You are doing such a service to others by sharing about Jess with her visible and not so visible disabilities. Jess is truly blessed to have you and #baddaddy as parents and Hannah and Madison as amazing children. Your whole family’s love for Jess is so beautiful.

Disney- yes! My daughter is blind autistic with endocrine abnormalities. I want often to get her wheelchair for long days out in crowds but people don’t understand me. Thank you 😭 It baffles my mind that we are in such a culture of trying to understand educate except whatever and yet there’s so little understanding and tolerance for what we need for our daughter. people send me things that blind people are doing. Blindness is the least of her issues. I wish you lived next-door to me I wanna be best friends lol I send that lol through tears please know. I don’t know how to thank you for sharing your lives. My daughter is only 10 but you are describing our life almost exactly. She Needs prompts abs multiple prompts for every task, I’d too having spent years trying to get that autism diagnosis because people in field attributing abnormalities to her blindness, the echolalia and parroting when she was younger, the pronoun confusion. All of this! We don’t know what the future looks like for her but this is very therapeutic for me to not feel so alone and also trying to learn from you what might be out there for us. The way that you worded in one of your videos how people can sometimes get distracted Watching her but not really seeing the disabilities like we see them. I get so tired of people making light of things that our life altering for her and for us just because My daughter is adorable and funny. These are the only words I can muster up right now. I’ve often tried to explain so much of what you are going to detail about on your videos but I just don’t have the words or the strength. So I so appreciate you speaking for so many of us who haven’t or can’t yet for whatever reason. I’m sharing this on my feed because people just don’t get it and it isolates us even more emotionally and mentally

I can completely relate, Val. I've given up trying to get help. I have multiple diagnoses, too, and have never been taken seriously, or given any long term help. I've just been dumped by all services, and have zero help. It's appalling. It all comes down to funding, here in England, and it's cheaper to ignore people than provide them with the help they need. I have been left unable to work, and the government here, makes disabled people have to prove that they're ill, every two years, which is ridiculous if you have lifelong debilitating illnesses. If the assessors (not medically qualified), believe you're fit for work, then you lose your disability benefits, and are expected to start looking for work. It's an atrocious, cruel system, put in place by our Conservative government. 😠 I'm just waiting for my turn to be told I have to go back to work, now, and that's after a massive nervous breakdown that I've never recovered from, plus all my lifeong, chronic conditions. 😢 Jess is blessed to have the family she does, and you're an amazing mother. Hello! I am a single mom with a 2 year old with special needs. And I am right there in the middle climbing the ladder of diagnosis and assessments. It was so good to hear this story of what the beginning was like! Knowing that I am not alone. We are starting preschool next year. Could you do a video on what it was like starting school and what elementary school was like for her?

I love how you always explain everything. I love to learn about Jessica’s disabilities. I love to be more aware in public when seeing or encountering people with those same disabilities. It helps me to understand behaviors, personalities etc.. I don’t have children with disabilities, I just love to learn. Someday I would love to be an ABA therapist.
